94 /100 Gidea Park Micropub (Bar) 236 MAIN ROAD Been here 4 times now and I love this place. A nice bright and airy bar. No fucken shite music forced down yer lugs and no multi millionaire philandering 'athletes' masquerading as footballers in the box. Add to this tranquility, a very good beer list. There is always something tasty and crafty to session both in keg and cask form. They seem to get it spot on in that lager, pale, IPA territory. When you want to round the evening off, there is normally one or two stronger brews to indulge in, usually an Impy and something else. Service is table service and it's exemplary. Half the time they know you want another beer before you do! And when all is said and done and your ready to eat a scabby horse, there are 2 very good curry houses within easy staggering distance. Love, love, love this bar. |
86 /100 Gidea Park Micropub (Bar) 236 MAIN ROAD Well-run micropub 10 minutes walk from Gidea Park station. Visited on 24th May 2022 to celebrate the opening of the Elizabeth line. Seemed quiet on my arrival but slowly filled up through the evening. Table service only, but comes with enthusiasm. Up to six well-kept cask ales from stillage and at least seven key kegs, all from small or micro breweries. Walls adorned with clip badges of most of the beers sold since the establishment opened. An adventurous range of crisps, nuts and poppadoms. Reasonable prices. Card payment only. CAMRA discount vouchers welcome. Well worth a visit. For substantial meals there’s a handy Harvester across the road. |
48 /100 Moon and Stars (JDW) (Bar) 99-103 SOUTH STREET Regular wetherspoon, but an ambient on Saturday night was a downside. Very crowded, loud and the crowd was not too pleasant. |
58 /100 Moon and Stars (JDW) (Bar) 99-103 SOUTH STREET Just a few doors down from its Lloyds Bar sister Wetherspoon neighbour, this pub offers little difference to it other than a more conventional setting for the chain with a traditional pub look. There are actually less ale pumps in this one but what is on offer is still a decent enough selection to warrant a look. There is a roaring fire against one wall and quite a few booth area either side of it for a modicum of privacy. |
62 /100 World’s Inn (JDW) (Bar) 113-117 SOUTH STREET On the main shopping street by the railway station, this is a Lloyds Bar with a small dancefloor to attaract a party crowd in the evenings. It’s full of tables during the daytime as a local and shopping crowd take shelter from the busy street outside for some convivial drinking on some nice soft furnished tables and chairs with a darker finish and look to its upholstery. Square in shape its probably slightly smaller than it needs to be at peak times but there’s not shortage of atmosphere here when it is. Rotating ales are on two sets of pumps. |
