68 /100 Chiverton Tap (Bar) 8 MELLOR ROAD On a small road sandwiched between the two railway lines that converge at Cheadle Hulme station entrance, its merely a minutes walk away from this. It's a large enough converted shop unit with a large glass window frontage blurring the lines between bar and micropub in appearance, but very much the latter in selection, with a very good choice of half a dozen cask options from micro brewers close or far away. Seating is either side of a central entrance, with more upstairs accessed by a stairway directly behind the service area, with outdoor seating also on the ground floor beyond this. |
74 /100 Chiverton Tap (Bar) 8 MELLOR ROAD A few minutes' walk from Cheadle Hulme station, the Chiverton Tap is worth a look if in the area, although maybe not the sort of place that demands a special trip out. A handful of cask lines are dedicated to decent Northern outfits such as Pentrich; the keg seems mostly given over to Outstanding brewery's core beers. The upstairs seating gives some respite to the crowded ground floor. While it's a popular bar, I'd stop short of classifying it as a destination. Even so, the beer choice is good, and prices are reasonable. |
58 /100 John Millington (Hydes) (Bar) 67 STATION ROAD At the end of the row of shops and businesses darting out south from the railway station and bridge, it's a modern Hydes incarnation of an old manor house building, as such it's quite a pleasant on the eye multi-roomed venue, with the bar in the central hallway area after you enter. This is very much a food based pub, although a lot of just drinking was going on on the Saturday night of my visit. There's an extensive laid out car park area exclusive for the pub. Ales include a couple of Hyde regular brews and one or two of their monthly specials. |
