“Shop unit micropub just down from the railway station and on the opposite side of the pedestrian street. It's part pub, part bottle shop with a row of keg ales available on the bar which is immediately to your left through its central doorway. The layout isn't the best planned nor are the takeaway beers presented that well, but the actual selection itself is not too bad which is what matters. I found a new Northern Monk on the taps here and thirds are available.“

“Visited on 11th February 2017. Large Spoons over the road from Eccles tram terminus, a modern looking glass frontage, a multi level interior seemed popular with match goers on a Saturday lunchtime. A good mix of local cask beers plus the usual Spoons offering. Prices were less than £2 a pint, service very efficient. A solid Spoons.“

“Visited on 11th February 2016. Over the road from Eccles tram terminus this a real gem of a Holts pub, pretty unassuming from the outside but the interior is fabulous. A central island bar surround by wood and etched glass and serving hatches, , all from floor to ceiling. Spectacular tiling up the staircase. Plenty of room to relax with a beer from the Holts range. Had well kept bitter and mild on cask plus a range of lagers on keg. Also had bottles of beer for sale too. Prices good at around £2.50 a pint, service was friendly. A must visit for a pub enthusiast.“

“To the untrained eye this pub will probably look like a backstreet dive in a red-brick building, but if you are in the area and get a chance to go inside here you’ll find a real gem. The interior is one of two Grade II listed historic Holts owned pubs within half a mile of each other. The self-standing structure includes a fine interior practically how it was built in the middle of the Edwardian era at the start of the 20th century. There’s several rooms all intricately designed with a central bar that includes a full floor to ceiling wooden carved partition with serving hatches. Holts ales are of course the order of things here but it includes a full range of bottles to compliment the keg and cask options. Easily found just a short walk away from the Wetherspoons opposite the large Morrisons store.“

“There’s no shortage of pubs that run along the main shopping street from the train station at its northern end to the bus station at its southern, however this is the only one of the half dozen where you will find decent cask ale. It faces the bus station area and although the building doesn’t look up to much it is over a hundred years old. There are two sides to this Holts pub which serves its own ales, a larger lounge side but an equally comfortable bar side that has character to it including plenty of photographs of sports stars of yesteryear neatly framed on the wall. One of them includes a cigarette smoking Formula 1 driver on the pitlane in the 70’s. Along with the full cask, keg and bottle Holts selection is a rotating guest ale.“

“In the small town centre of Eccles directly opposite the tram terminus and the Morrisons supermarket. The pub has an ordinary look on the outside and isn’t the most prominently signed of the chain, but inside the familiar carpets and durable wooden furniture make this a more than comfortable spot to drink, and the prices match the local economy of the area which is generally on the cheaper side of things. The best place to sit are in the church-like alcove areas that make-up the wall between the ground floor and elevated platform area that faces the bar towards the rear. Ales are on a couple of rows of pumps.“
