76 /100 Beer Necessities (Beer Store) UNIT 3, CARGO 1, GAOL FERRY STEPS Bottleshop in a 20 ft x 8 ft shipping container on Wapping Wharf. Decent range of cans & bottles available for such a small space. Two taps pouring. Drink in or take away. Friendly service. Now doing online orders during lockdown |
70 /100 West Country Craft (Internet-based) 24 CROWNLEAZE Online store. Mostly local (west country based) beers available. Free delivery within the local area, even for small orders, which is nice. Comms are good |
72 /100 Kongs of King Street (Bar) 13-15 KING STREET Large space on King Street with quite a young vibe. Lots of arcade machines and pinball etc. The beer selection was pretty decent, we visited during a Garage (BCN) tap takeover so there was plenty to go at |
66 /100 Kings Head (Bar) 60 VICTORIA STREET On our list of heritage pubs. Somewhat small place with one narrow room. Bit rundown traditional interior with lots of wood. There is a large booth replicating an old tram car (I guess). They have 5 cask beers, pretty much the usual ones - HPA, Exmoor Fox, London Pride, Harveys Best Bitter and Castle Rock Harvest Pale. Fox was average. OK to see the interior, but wouldn't some here for the beer. |
82 /100 HAWKINS LANE, FINZELS REACH Visited in the evening, the place was quite full. Front side overlooking the river with a foot bridge in front looks fantastic, state of the art level and on of the nicest taprooms I've been to. High ceiling large space with some tables outside. They had 16 taps on, mostly their own beers which I find to be very good. Guests included Verdant, Buxton, Burnt Mill and Boon which works out in my book. Flights available for beers under 7.5%. Seems to be card only. Proper taproom and one of must visits in Bristol. |
76 /100 BrewDog Bristol (Bar) 58 BALDWIN STREET Visited in the evening, the places was packed so we opted for the patio. Typical Brewdog industrial setting which works out for me, patio could be better. They had collabfest in progress so 18 out of 20 taps were BD collabs with other breweries. For some reason most of them did not seem very appealing, and the ones we've tried were good at best. I guess worth visiting depending on the tap list. |
74 /100 17-18 KING STREET Pretty large pub spreading over several connected areas. Absolutely packed during our visit on a Thursday evening. Bit too loud for me. They had 14 kegs, 6 casks and 6 ciders on tap. No usual suspects so good for ticking, but I missed a bit more of big beers - 15 of them were 5% or less and just three more than 6% (1x6.3; 2x7.5). Some bottles as well. With this tap list it was good for a short visit, that could change with different set of beer on tap. |
78 /100 Beer Emporium (Bar) 15 KING STREET This place has an interesting setup. Upstairs there is some kind of a beer shop, but seemed like one of those with lots of Belgian beers you see everywhere and not that much of interesting stuff. In the cellar there is a bar which spreads through 2 brick tunnels. There was a jazz session during our visit which was nice. 12 casks and 12 kegs, best one by far was the superb New Bristol Irish Cream Stout. Some decent choices from the fridge, but nothing super interesting for me so I gave it a pass. Worth checking out. |
86 /100 Small Bar (Bar) 31 KING STREET Visited in the early evening, the place seemed quite full. Spreads over several rooms and it has couple of tables with benches outside. 20 taps, some imported stuff like Pohjala and Alvinne, but mostly UK beers like Yonder, Lost and Grounded and LHG. 2 ciders. Very nice bottle list, among others they had about 30 sour beers listed which included Cantillon, Mills and 3 Fonteinen. Prices didn't seem too high either. Seems they do beer events on regular basis. With some luck with the tap list one could spend an evening here, one of the best bars on our trip. |
86 /100 HAWKINS LANE, FINZELS REACH This was packed out last night.
Very decent selection of beers on tap. Even though it was packed out I wasnt waiting long for beer
I couldn't order some food which was why I went in there. |
86 /100 GAOL FERRY STEPS This is a nice bar and it was next to the museum that I went (well I did walk for a while to find this place.) A decent selection of beers on tap with some guest beers as well. I would have like for more of their sours on tap.
Staff were very nice but my server didnt really know anything about the beers (although he only just started in his defence) |
98 /100 Small Bar (Bar) 31 KING STREET I went to this place last night where I had three beers and some wings. Great service and decent selections of beers. Staff were friendly Go for wings SO GOOD. |
92 /100 BrewDog Bristol (Bar) 58 BALDWIN STREET I went to this place last night. The place was packed out. Had a great selection of beers on tap and a nice fridge full of other beers |
72 /100 HAWKINS LANE, FINZELS REACH Modern location that is a characterful conversion of one of the riverside buildings on the old George's brewery site, that has a terrace overlooking Castle Park and the bombed-out ruins of St Peter's Church. A busy place, which is, in many ways, Small Bar on a larger scale. Unsurprisingly LHG beers were to the fore, and the couple I tried were pleasant. Staff were pleasant and card-only service brisk. Worth a visit. |
10 /100 32 UPPER YORK STREET Pretty poor. Very priced for what you get. Very average beers. Nothing that would make me come again. Rude staff that introduced himself as manager. Cant sew big future for them . Especially in Bristol home of so manycraft breweries with great tap rooms like leftt hand giant or moor just to mention. Don't waste your time. Not recomended |
82 /100 17-18 KING STREET In term of playlist and staff this is pretty good place to stop. However it lacks the cozy feel |
96 /100 Small Bar (Bar) 31 KING STREET Lovely playlist, great atmosphere and helpful staff, what more should I look for? |
86 /100 Beer Emporium (Bar) 15 KING STREET Lovely selection on taps and fridge. Cozy atmosphere. Nice |
86 /100 HAWKINS LANE, FINZELS REACH A beautiful conversion in a stunning location right next to the river in the centre of Bristol. There is a big open window that looks out over the river to the park opposite. Inside, its big with plenty of seating, the brewkit is in the space behind the bar to one side. There is an first floor space that is used for overspill and events etc. 25 taps split roughly 60% LHG beers and 40% guest beers. The food is provided by Mission Pizza. Card only |

72 /100 Bristol Cider Shop (Beer Store) UNIT 4, CARGO 1, GAOL FERRY STEPS, WAPPING WHARF Visited July 2019. Placed at the harbour, easy to find. Small shop ( upscaled shipping containers ), that also having drink in. They serve several ciders from pollybags. Seatings outside. Bottles are mainly ciders, ice ciders and meads. Friendly service. |
72 /100 Three Tuns (Bar) 78 ST. GEORGES ROAD Visited July 2019. Short walk from the harbour. Cosy old style town pub. Great atmosphere, friendly service. Beers served in good condition. Good amount of seatings. Small beer garden in the back. Nice relaxing place.. ( and that eventhough the harbour festival is going on in the nice weather ) |

66 /100 Canteen (Bar) THE CANTEEN WEST, 80 STOKES CROFT Visited July 2019. This place is for me a mix of a polish folk kitchen and English pub. Very busy, mainly by locals at our visit. People drinking, eating and talking.. not the largest beer selection, beers served in fine condition.. Friendly staff.. they do food, we didn't eat though.. |
74 /100 32 UPPER YORK STREET Visited July 2019. Small taproom ( might have been a garage or so ).. Our first stop, 20 minutes walk from the station. Check out their opening hours before going there, they are limited.. Friendly service from the staff. Beers served in good condition. |
68 /100 Corks at Cargo (Beer Store) UNIT 6 CARGO, WAPPING WHARF This is a boutique style bottle shop in a new unit in the very trendy Wapping Wharf area of Bristol opposite the Wild Beer bar. Due to its bijou size the range is necessarily restricted but still of interest to the craft beer hunter. Local breweries dominate the choice from what I could see on a flying visit. Restrained and quiet service, which I am happy with. Boutique in style and boutique in price in my opinion but I did still manage to walk away reasonably happy. |
76 /100 Bridge Inn (Bar) 16 PASSAGE STREET Called in last week and chose Cocksure session IPA and GWB Bloody Nora. |
74 /100 Bank Tavern (Bar) 8 JOHN STREET. Called in last week and chose Pheasantry Black Pheasant Dark Ale and Bluestone Pembs Bedrock Blond. |
70 /100 Christmas Steps (Bar) 2 CHRISTMAS STEPS Called in last week and chose Twisted Oak Crack Gold. Sat outside but got lost inside trying to find the right way out with my beer. |
80 /100 Lime Kiln (Bar) 17 ST GEORGES ROAD Called in last week and chose Goldmark Micro Bus and Fine Tuned Twist & Shout. |
86 /100 Bag O’ Nails (Bar) 141 ST. GEORGES ROAD Called in last week and there was a great selection of ales here. Chose Cocksure IPA, Pomona Island Pale Citrus and Amarillo, and Stealth Smoke and Mirrors. I have such mixed feelings about this place. Over our 3 days visit to Bristol this pub had the most beers we wanted to drink. We don't mind the shabby look and we loved the music the friendly barman was putting on the record player BUT with cats and their scruffy bed boxes on the bar and around the seating I did feel I wanted to scratch all the time. It is a pub that draws me back every visit though for beer choice and condition. Ho hum. |
88 /100 Three Tuns (Bar) 78 ST. GEORGES ROAD Called in last week and chose Mad Dog Strawberry Milkshake and Colchester Number One. |
64 /100 Watershed Cafe Bar (Bar) WATERSHED CAFE BAR, 1 CANONS ROAD Called in last week and enjoyed our Twisted Gaucho while sitting out on the balcony in the sunshine. |
84 /100 Gryphon (Bar) 41 COLSTON STREET Called in last week and chose Three Hills Giant Leap/Rhubarb Crumble Stout and Froth blowers Monsoon. Love visiting this place. |
64 /100 WELSH BACK Called in last week and chose their own King Street beers - Ra Ra Rasputin and Summit or Nuffin. I found the beers average but it is a good pub and worth having a look. |
84 /100 Beer Emporium (Bar) 15 KING STREET Called in last week and chose Tiley's Waimea Red Ale. Cellar bar with a lift. |
82 /100 17-18 KING STREET Called in last week and chose Tap Social 28 days and Dawkins Bristol Blonde. |
90 /100 Small Bar (Bar) 31 KING STREET Called in last week and there was a brilliant selection of beers on boards according to style and chose Lost & Grounded Running with Spectres which was their 6.8% stout rather than their lager. |
70 /100 No.1 Harbourside (Bar) 1 CANONS ROAD Called in last week and chose Bristol Beer Factory Notorious. |
74 /100 Commercial Rooms (JDW) (Bar) 43-45 CORN STREET Called in last week and chose Mumbles Triple Hop Pale and Evans Evans CWRW. |

78 /100 Cornubia (Bar) 142 TEMPLE STREET Another bar with great selection. Yeovil, Pershore, Severn, 2x Bluestone, Blue Bee. We chose Hillfoot best bitter and Brotherhood Session both of which were fine. Also a couple of ciders on the bar. |
84 /100 Seven Stars (Bar) 1 THOMAS LANE Good start to our Bristol visit with beers from 3d, Artisan, Parkway, Nottingham, Gloucester and Bragby twt lol. The 3 d Irish coffee milk stout was superb and the dark ale from Parkway was fine too.
Called back in on our way back to the station 2 days later and chose Old Pie Factory Pie in the Sky and Firebird Two Horses. Well placed to start and finish a brilliant 3 days in Bristol. Will be back. |
