76 /100 1 THE CENTRAL PRECINCT, WINCHESTER ROAD
“Visited Saturday 06/04/19, just after opening. I Ubered from Steam Town but I note it's not too far away from the railway station. I am somewhat jealous that I don't have a place like this near. A lovely little micropub in a suburb of a suburb, on a small parade of shops. To be fair it's relativity spacious, can probably sit around 30 people on tables down one side with a bar on the left as you walk in. Around 5 casks and 7 kegs, with a cool room visible behind the bar. Some ciders boxes as well, if I remember correctly. A range of beers which were primarily from Hampshire and nearby counties. I spoke to the very friendly owner who explained that he was now tending to stock local beers which were just as popular and cheaper than likes of Cloudwater. I wanted to catch a train so I settled for three beers (Eight Arch, Flowerpots and Unity) and then bought 5 cans to takeaway. There was a good atmosphere as the owner obviously knew the locals but took time to talk to me. I guess they don't get too much demand earlier in the day so open at 15:00. Getting nearer to 16:00 more regulars came in as well as a large group who were presumably on their way out of town and had stopped in for a drink en route. The barman happily helped a lady choose what to drink, "Desperados? Nah, you wanna forget that!" A little gem of a place.“
