“Probably the oldest surviving pub in Hereford, it's a little off the beaten track, down towards the Wye old bridge. There is a small frontage but it is a much larger place than initially meets the eye. It feels like a works canteen inside though, mostly set up for diners, very clean, spick and span but drained of atmosphere. There were 3 beers on hand pull with Wye Valley HPA but also two from Three Tuns, nothing new for me but could be a rare opportunity for visitors to the area to get beers from this brewery.“

“This was previously the Firefly and in essence little of the structure has been altered, it has been smartened up though, it now feels clean, tidy and friendly. It was one of the very few beer orientated pubs open on a Thursday lunch time, it appears that Covid has affected Hereford more than most. It claims the most hand-pumps in the whole of Herefordshire, probably true. It is recognisable as a Black Country Inn chain pub, similar range as the others, I did pick up 3 new beers however, a screen listing the beers, plush carpet and seating. Hope it does well.“

82 /100 HEREFORD ROWING CLUB, 37 GREYFRIARS AVENUE
“Relaxed and friendly festival held annually at the Rowing Club on the banks of the River Wye. Roughly 135 beers available with a similar amount of ciders. Quite a weather dependant festival as it is largely held outdoors with the beers in a marquee. There are bands playing at most times. A firm favourite.“

“Shop within spitting distance of the Black and White House Museum. It’s certainly more of a wine/spirits shop, but there’s a decent-sized area dedicated to beers and ciders. The beer won’t hold up too many surprises (for those of us who are anywhere near local anyway), but the cider selection includes quite a few producers from Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Wales. You’ll almost certainly find something new so they’re worth a look.“

“Old-fashioned and well-worn multi-room tavern southeast of the city centre. It’s friendly enough but feels like it could do with a spruce-up. You won’t find any cask beer other than Wye Valley here, and they are a fairly unadventurous if generally solid outfit, so you’ll be drinking the traditional UK styles here (done very well, I might add) on their 7 handpumps. They also have a couple Wye Valley beers in keg (their lager and a pale) as well as a couple of bottles, so those new to Wye Valley could conceivably come away with double digits of ticks. Worth popping in if in the area.“

“Bar with a modern feel with wooden flooring and furniture. Friendly guy behind the bar. The beer list is quite small, only three casks on my visit (easily obtainable Wye Valley) plus their Fandango on keg. Everything else is macro. It's really cheap and well-kept beer, but they don't have anything you won't find elsewhere.“

“A 10-15 minute trek out of town to the west. I enjoyed the Cider Museum a lot more thanI thought I would. There's quite a lot of interesting exhibits and information on cidermaking, and even though it's obviously Bulmers-centric I enjoyed reading about the business history. Cider tasting at the end but portions are small and they are quick after each other so not really a rating opportunity there. Gift shop has a realtively small but interesting selection of ciders, including some rarer Oliver's I hadnt seen. Maybe a bit expensive for £5.50 but if you just want to peruse the gift shop, this is free.“

Hereford Beer House (Beer Store)

“This place. The real deal. Hereford has a surprisingly decent beer scene for its size but it is fair to say this is the jewel in the crown. The one-room bar is cosy, friendly and fun with piped jazz in the background. There are 6 beers on keg along with 3 ciders. The beers are far from the sessionable offerings around the rest of town: a couple of sessionables are there but the main beers (Cloudwater, Staggeringly Good, SMoD) are mid-strength and above. Bottles/cans, whiskey and local gins enhance the menu. Draught beer can be taken away on 500ml, 2l and 4 pints. Awesome cat as well. Be warned that it isn't cheap. Glorious.“

“I don't know what the Orange Tree was like before Black Country Inns took over, so I can't compare it. It's a fairly 'cookie cutter' Black Country pub, the the patterned pub carpet and etched glass. But thats no bad thing. It is bit labyrinthine to get to the bar in the back, but the staff are exceptionally friendly even when busy. The beer list is also typical Black Country with 4 of their own beer and 8 guests from Salopian, Plain, Downton and Fownes among others. Sessionable and mostly (but not all) pales. Certainly worth a visit.“

“Cosy craft beer bar just west of the city centre. Quiet and friendly, with dampened piped music. 4 cask and 7 keg when I came in, along with a healthy bottle/can fridge and 7 ciders. As this is an Odyssey bar, they are very well represented alongside craft monsters such as New Bristol, Bristol Beer Factory, Verdant, Beak and the Kernel. I'm pretty sure this is the only place I've seen Odyssey on cask as well. They do lean heavily toward the sessionable - strongest draught beer is 6.5% but most hang around 5% - but the very faithful prices reflect this. I'm really fond of this bar.“

“BlackHaddock brought me here many moons ago before the Hereford v Grimsby game (Up the Mariners!) I honestly can't remember much other than the bar looking like the outside of a boat, and the farting dog. See BlackHaddock's review below for a more in depth review.“

78 /100 UNIT 22C BEECH BUSINESS PARK, TILLINGTON ROAD
“A brewery and a taproom located in a warehouse building to the rear of a business park a bit outside of central Hereford. We used the local bus to get there, about 20 minutes from the town, and after the drinking session we walked back to Hereford, about 40 minutes. Quite ordinary taproom and with its brewery plant to the rear of the building. We had 11 Wobbly beers, served from tap, cask, and one on can. Their draught beers were served in half and pints, no thirds. Long tables and benches. Good music in in back, Oasis and Coldplay, among them. Friendly service, including an informative talk with the management. We also got some free beers. Seemed quite popular by the locals, even on a Monday afternoon. Decent opening hours and helpful website. (Visited with Finn 17.10.2022).“

“Orange Tree is now under the management of Black Country Inns, and opened its doors in mid- September 2022. Ten cask ales and two hand-pulled ciders, available in thirds. Decent selection of bottles and cans as well. Very well kept traditional British pub with carpeted floors, etched widow glass, and comfortable chairs and benches. Friendly, informative service. Central location. Highly recommended. (Visited with Finn 17.10.2022).“

“Interesting Cider Museum spread over two floors. After the tour they give you three very small samples of different ciders on the ticket. Quite a good range of ciders on bottles to take away or to drink at the café to the left hand side of the entrance. Friendly service and atmosphere. Btw, no beers available. “Review is for an online shop order. Great experience overall. I put in the order given the big selection of German beers, but they have plenty of other goodies as well, especially cider. The shipping charge is well above most shops I have seen, but given they have numerous beers I haven't seen elsewhere I didn't mind the premium - and I made it a large order to 'make it count.' (And they are a small business so I appreciate they can't absorb a lot of costs.) The beers arrived quickly and were well packed. I will certainly order from them again once they have more nice German beers to try!“

“The main outlet for beers from Wye Valley in Hereford, most of the eight cask ales came from the brewery. Those we had were all in fine condition. A proper traditional pub with the bar in the middle serving different sections. Good vibe on a Saturday afternoon with the match between Leicester and Chelsea on TV. Hardworking, friendly staff. (Visited with Finn 01.02.2020).“

“A well-kept traditional pub next to the cathedral in town. Long and narrow, but opens up with a comfortable beer garden after the servery in the middle of the place. More seating upstairs. Five hand-pulled cask ales, including two from Wye Valley. Quite cozy with a wooden layout and chesterfield chairs. Sports screen and food options. Polite service. (Visited with Finn 01.02.2020).“

“An outlet for beers from Odyssey Brew Company with five of their beers on keg and a few more in cans. Only kegs and quite expensive cans, even for Norwegians. A few guest beers as well. Rather long and narrow pub room with the bar to the rear. Gallery painting on the walls. Decent cheese board. Friendly welcome. (Visited with Finn 01.02.2020).“

“Many thanks to Johnny for a friendly welcome and for giving us tasters of some of the ciders. The place has got a well-stocked range of bottles and cans in the fridge supported by 10 taps altogether, including locally sourced ciders. Rather small room with a L-shaped bar. Rock attitude to the music. (Visited with Finn 01.02.2020).“

“We visited this corner place for the locally sourced beers from Swan. A reception at the entrance, restaurant right head and a bar to the right where we were served the cask ales. Clean, tidy and cozy barroom with mahogany furniture, a few chesterfield chairs and an open fire place. A rather posh impression, perhaps. Friendly service. (Visited with Finn 01.02.2020).“

“We decided to pay a visit to this museum not really knowing what to expect. We took a self guided tour which was informative and it took longer than I expected, about an hour. At the end of the tour we had a small tasting which is included in the tour price. There is a bottle shop, 100 ciders sounds about right. I'm no cider expert, but the cider selection seemed quite extensive with lots of different producers. Was bit disappointed there was no ice cider available, but I guess that's not easy to find. It's bit hard to rate because this is not your classic bottle shop and it's focused just on cider, but if you have interest in cider I'd say it's well worth checking out.“

“This is a market stall within the indoor market, sharing facilities with other stalls nearby. The ciders appear to be all from the Gwatkin range plus there are bottles of cider and beer on sale, some beer under the Gwatkin beer range livery brewed at Staffordshire. Interesting and friendly place, can be combined with great food from a nearby stall.“

“This is on the west side of the town in quite an industrial part of Hereford, quite surprising to find it situated where it is. It is half bottle shop, half tap house with a decent range of the better craft brewers plus a few ciders, well it is Hereford! I found the bottle prices to be a bit steep for me, so I didn't take any away however the tapped beer was fairly reasonable. Good service, it was a little quiet on our visit but well worth going in.“

“Quite a reasonable Wetherspoons this one, a little off the town centre but part of a row of drinking caverns, like Yates and a few others. Clean and tidy on our visit, lots of seating. The beer range is small and mostly nationals, but there was a couple of more unusual beers to try. It's fine.“

“Visited on 4th November 2017. Single roomed bar and bottle shop a decent walk through the city centre from the station, it is on the way to the Odyssey place so worth the detour. Decor is smart and modern, the fridges well presented. The beer range was really good with a solid mix of styles and brewers. Guy behind the bar was super friendly and loved beer. Prices were great. Really liked this place and would definitely revisit.“

“Four of us visited on Saturday 2017-10-07. It's a small place, but with room to seat about twenty-five people maximum. Decor is minimalist and un-fussy. Service was efficient and fast (and when we ordered the cheese platter, one of the staff immediately ran off down the street to the cheese shop, rather than saying "sorry, the platter's off". Now that's what I call service). There are six taps plus four ciders on bag-in-box, plus a selection of about 120 bottles and cans in the fridges. These were all (to my eye) modern craft beers and ciders - I didn't notice any trad beers at all. On tap when we visited were Beavertown, Cloudwater, Marble (can't remember the others). The food is just bar snacks, but of the highest quality (be sure and try the Hereford Hop cheese with a good dry cider). Prices were very reasonable, and there was a good mix of types in (ie you don't need to be a hipster). All in all, you should definitely visit.“

“Love this pub; first visited back in the day it was the home of ’The Spinning Dog’ brewery. So named because their dog would fart and then spin round to try and bite his fart: great fun watching him spinning around, but a bit smelly! Ownership and brewery name has changed but it’s still a lovely and interesting bar to visit, the decor is just so different to almost anywhere else in the world I have been to. Staff and beers are fine. Never seems to be busy though, a real shame. Only been in on Saturday lunchtimes before Grimsby Town games against Hereford or once on a CAMRA trip, again on a Saturday afternoon.“

“Visited in the summer of 2016. In common with the other raters, I found this place to be highly impressive. We visited for a drink rather than to buy bottles, so I must admit I did not inspect the contents of the fridges. My focus was entirely on the Schlenkerla Fastenbier on tap, which was about the last beer I’d expect to find in Hereford. It was excellent, as was the service and company. The cider list looked very commendable too. Worth seeking out.“

“First visit here and what an impressive place. We are cask ale drinkers but were happy to try a couple of the tap beers, and after enjoying a Cloudwater and Thornbridge ale we went on to Brew by Numbers and Beavertown. Relaxed friendly bar where you can get a snack too. Had a look in the large fridges at the bottle selection and ended up with a bottle of Two Roads brewery Expressway, and a can of Belching Beaver brewery Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Wished we lived closer to this excellent bar.“

“Enjoyed our visit to this bar where they had 3 Wye Valley beers plus a Tiny Rebel brewery guest on the bar. There were 8 casks on stillage, 2 of which were on so we had the Tiny Rebel and the excellent Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby from these. They are going to host a beer festival shortly, cannot remember dates. Long room with the bar leading back to doors out to a pleasant outside drinking / smoking area. A TV playing with the news on by the bar, and at the back was a large screen where I expect sport will be shown. Upstairs is another seating area with a smaller bar which can be used as a function room. A selection of bottled beers also available.“

“Great indie beer shop / taproom shining like a beacon in a county, and general area of the country, that is a bit of a barron desert for modern craft beer. Run by an enthusiastic young couple who are passionate about interesting beer and great local cider - indeed, there are 6 of both cider and beer on draft, all interesting well chosen stuff. The bottled beers are housed in a large American-style fridge unit with an impressive selection of on the pulse new releases and solid Belgian / German classics. Nice, simple, relaxed vibe here. Only wish i lived closer, I’d be here all the time!“

“This is a pleasant wine merchants near the heart of Hereford, not far from the bus drop off. “There is a narrow frontage to this ex Laundrette, but it is certainly Tardis like inside as the pub is amazingly spacious. There is an eclectic furniture mix, so easy to find somewhere comfortable. Shame about the 4pm opening hours as it made it difficult to tie in the bus, but at least the bus stop is just a minute down the road. The bar is on the right and promises much, however; on our visit, delivered only 4 beers in total, one of which was a keg. The Odyssey connection provided 2 of the beers, including the keg. The quality was good, although the beers were quite similar, nothing darker available on our visit. We would visit again, hopefully on a busier day.“

“Large pub at the top end of Widemarsh street, multi roomed, felt like a hotel bar with a separate restaurant. This seems to be a chain that has crept up on us, they have places all over the Midlands but this is the first I have come across. Not a massive beer choice, although did seem to have bottles plus a couple of beers from a local Brewery. Really friendly bar guy, very helpful. Certainly worth a visit.“
