“Small bar opened on Lincoln lower high street. Very much a traditional pub and in my visit frequented by a locals. On my visit of the 4 Hand Pumps , 3 were widely available local beers from welbeck abbey, pleasantry, and milestone. Fairly quiet on my visit but during the Coronavirus outbreak.“

“Rather large JDW nicely located downtown by the Brayford Pool. Two rows with cask ales, four in each. Very busy and noisy on a Thursday late afternoon. Decent salad bowl for food. Polite service. We preferred Ritz to this one when it comes to the spoons in Lincoln. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“Old school British pub, dark lit, colourful decorations. Six hand-pulled cask ales, none of them locally sourced at our stay. Rock attitude to the ambience with heavy rock music. Polite service. Located not so far from the train station. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“A large open-plan room with a L-shaped, half-moon, long bar in the middle. Four had-pulled cask ales. Mostly fizzy stuff among the kegs. Rather loud resonance in the room. Food option. Polite service. Located downtown before climbing the Steep Hill. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“Located almost at the end of the Steep Hill. Quite cozy place in brick and wood. Narrow entrance, but it opens up with different rooms to the rear. Three cask ales and a local one among the kegs. Polite service. (Visited with Finn on a pub crawl in Lincoln 30.01.2020).“

“A decent pub located in the middle part of the Steep Hill. Eight hand-pulled cask ales added by four ciders and craft beers among the kegs. Cozy library-like room to the left of the bar where we enjoyed well-kept ales, and shared a tasty platter with cheese and meat. Polite service. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“Located almost in the shadow of the cathedral. Four-sided modern taproom, medium-sized, wooden interiors and colourful decorated. 10 craft beers on tap supported by bottles and cans, and a range of six HP ales. Third options. Friendly service from a barman who played the right kind of music at our stay A real pleasure to drink here to the sound of the Scottish band Deacon Blue. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“A regular JDW in a former cinema room, spread over different seating sections. A pleasant surprise to find four cask ales from Beermats Brewing Company. A decent traditional breakfast for £3.85, good value, indeed. Located downtown, not more than five minuets from the train station. Polite service. (Visited with Finn 30.01.2020).“

“This is a pleasant old Bateman's pub close to the castle. Lots of rooms to look through but we preferred the outside seating taking in the view. The beer range is pretty much Batemans plus nationally available beers, so little choice really. Not a beer hunters pub but probably the most traditional in Lincoln.“

“This is a pleasant locals pub on the top end of town, just round the corner from the Victoria. Friendly enough although there was a bit of an aggressive Brexit conversation going on with some dodgy views. Old fashioned room set up but nothing wrong with that. It's well worth a look.“

“It was a good old climb up to get to this, on a side street away from the Cathedral area. There is a rugged modern feeling to it on entering, Industrial fittings and wooden benches. Plenty of choice on both cask and keg beers. Quiet on our visit but I'm told it gets busy at weekends and evenings. Well worth the effort.“

“Large modernised pub at the top end of High Street, just before the Strait. Nice pleasant atmosphere on our visit, quite foodie. There are a few options on the beer front to keep you interested. One of the better venues in Lincoln“

“Late evening visit, Saturday 1st Dec 2018. The place was bouncing with customers, we managed to find a table and some seats upstairs; standing room only on the ground floor. Good choice of cask ales, might have been some unusual keg stuff but I didn't see any. Four new rates for me, all cask. Just too busy for me, but the staff were fine and coped well with the crowds.“

“Early evening visit, Saturday 1st Dec 2018. Nice vibe, open plan with a long table down the center and smaller ones along both walls, bar towards the rear. Interesting selection of both cask and keg lines; didn't check the fridge. Four new rates for me (all cask), would have been more, but I was on a Mission! Prices better than I expected, pleasant chap behind the bar, busy evening too.“

“!9th-century pub with 1920s mock-Tudor frontage inserted by Ind Coope. Very friendly staff and well kept beers, especially Bateman's XXXB. Only doing filled rolls for food now (2018). Regulars plus travellers killing time before their train. Lovely garden, about to be seriously overlooked by new multi-storey development next door. Not used as much as it should, being so central. Closes early - 9:30ish.“

“Mainly rating this place on beer. Marstons pub which is reflected in the beer selection fairly limited cask options and generic macros beers. Extensive food menu, not cordon bleu, traditional pub grub, but tasty enough. Cask pint I had was decent enough and appeared to be well kept.“

“Lincoln certainly isn't short of good beer destinations. While the Cardinal's Hat doesn't stand out in this city, it could easily be a destination in many areas. As it is, it's close enough to the Strait and Narrow and the Crafty Bottle that you'll probably want to pop in. There are a few good traditional beers and ciders. Keg isn't up to much, and neither is the printed bottle list, but they have a handful of absolute crackers announced on the chalkboard: Loka Polly, Anarchy, and the new Tynt Meadow beer. Reasonable prices. Friendly. Our little girl was welcome, but no dogs inside (there's a bit of seating outside in front, but then again it's summer).“

“The West End Tap is a pleasant, low-key, friendly bar. Darkly lit and spacious, it offers a handful of well-chosen cask (Tiny Rebel and Brewsters) alongside a small and decent (if predictable) keg selection (Gamma Ray, Inhaler, etc). Small bottle/can selection, nothing new here but a couple of Brass Castle beers I hadn't tried. Maybe not worth the trek out, but if you're in this part of town by all means give the West End Tap a try.“

“Spacious, funky, friendly beer bar on the Strait. There are a few cask beers and quite a few keg which are all German and Belgian. So far nothing you can't get elsewhere. Then I looked at the eye-popping bottle/can menu. Mikkeller, Naparbier, the Wylam Northern Powerhouse beers, Siren, To Øl. Reasonable prices all in all. Worth visiting for sure.“

“A cask pub with a difference. As Mr Pink says, the two room are tiny, but they're certainly convivial and why wouldn't they be? Nine beers from a variety of breweries. Axholme, Great Heck, Dukeries and Black Hole are represented. What caught my eye was the fact that three of the beers were 6% or over. They know their stuff here. A place to get a bit schnockered on good traditional beer.“

“Vibrant, hip bar catering to the craftier side of Lincoln's thirst buds. A few cask from good outfits like North Riding, but it was the keg taps and fridge that caught my eye. Delights from the great and the good with eight keg taps. The fridge isn't the largest you'll ever see but there are some very well-chosen beers from Amundsen, Weird Beard, Cloudwater, Northern Monk, etc. The sort of place where you feel right at home and you don't want to leave...“

“Visited 25/5/2018. One of 3 pubs in close proximity to my hotel for the night. It was fairly late on a Friday evening and of the 4 pumps they have, 3 were turned round leaving only Doom Bar. Don't know how many of the 3 had run out that day compared with not been on at all. Certainly not worth the battle with Steep Hill for this place alone if seeking beer choice. The pub itself was generally quite pleasant but not worth visiting if seeking out beers.“

“Visited 25/5/2018. One of 3 pubs in close proximity to my hotel for the night. This was my favourite of the 3 in the area but to be fair none were great beer selection wise. This one had a decent atmosphere and friendliest service and also wasn't quite so loud. But whilst the best of the 3, didn't hang around long.“

“Visited 25/5/2018. One of 3 pubs in close proximity to my hotel for the night. Not a place to hang around long for the beers, only having pretty mainstream ales on offer. Quite noisy inside too (but then it was late Saturday evening). Not my favourite of the 3.“

“Visited 25/5/2018. Pleasant pub, comfortable interior, food focused with good looking food, friendly service, but limited beer selection. Big (only) draw beer wise is the availability of at least one Harby Brewstore beer, which for me was reason to visit. Time to move on after.“

“Nice bar near the cathedral in Lincoln. Bigger than the average micro pub, but shares the same casual atmosphere. Great range of beers on 6 HP and 10 Keg lines, plus plenty of bottles and cans. Lots of wooden booths on both sides of the room mean plenty of seating areas, most tables have power supply and usb. Free wifi also a nice addition. Knowledgeable staff and the beer seemed great value.“

“Owned by the same people behind the Strait and Narrow, but the is an irish american themed bar, which always put me off. Basically a smaller version of the strait, less beers on tap and cask and less bottle. There seems to be plenty of live music in the evenings. Not quite the ambiance or range of beers as the Strait and Narrow, but still worth a visit.“

“Visited on Friday 24th Nov 2017, mid-evening. Very quiet, but a nice with pleasant young staff. We sat just above the small bar area and a few people came in and walked past us to reach another room up some stairs, we didn't venture up there assuming it was the dining room. Three cask ales, two from Harby Brewstore and Adnams Lighthouse. So three new rates for me (couldn't believe I'd never had a cask Lighthouse, bottles yes according to my stats, but not in cask form). Nice relaxed place, we liked it.“

“Visited on Friday 24th Nov 2017, late afternoon. Usual Spoons/Lloyds set up, with the traditional lack of staff when you want serving. Pleasant enough once they serve you, but just two behind the long bar trying to keep the hoards happy takes it's toll on them. Anyway the cask selection was very poor, with only one guest beer (from Oldershaw's) otherwise it was the regular fare on offer. Wife and I had a cheap bite in here too, good value and tasty enough, so no complaints apart from the shortage of staff.“

“Visited early afternoon on Friday 24th Nov 2017. Jovial landlord fronting a newly decorated pub. Opens out past the bar into a fair sized room, we sat near the door though and people watched out the window onto the High Street. Batemans and a guest cask ale (from Dark Star on this occasion). Beers in good nick, the two old ladies next to us had some lovely looking food delivered to them, but we didn't eat. I used to drink in here back in the 1970's, it's changed, but not too much, it's a proper town centre pub.“

“Visited twice over the weekend of 25th/26th Nov 2017. Nicely decorated place, open plan on two levels, 6 cask ales, 10 plus keg lines and an interesting and extensive bottle list all at keen prices. Friendly staff and every beer I had was in good order. Certainly the best bar with the biggest selection I found in Lincoln over the weekend.“

“Good traditional boozer at the the top of the main thoroughfare. Decent selection of hand pumps and casks including a good 3 or 4 ciders. Cask beers wee mostly local(ish) and of a decent calibre. Further beers on tap and also bottles. Didn't try the food, but the menu looked decent enough. Tried the Great Heck Shankar IPA which was nicely kept and a good pint. Quietiish on Wednesday afternoon, with just a few locals. Seemed to be family friendly.. Nor hugely spacious, but this is probably due to the restrictions of the building which is a few hundred years old.“

“Very nice establishment in a building that dates back to the 1400’s, recently reopened as a pub. Apparently it was an inn back when it was built. A decent selection of beer on at least 12 hand pumps, four were cider, a selection of keg beers and a decent bottle range also. Food really good a selection of meat and cheese sharing platters looked good but not tried at my first visit. (since tried and enjoyed). Quiet in the day and heaving at the weekends. This is a stand out pub for Lincoln. Certainly worth a visit and a good stop off before the climb of the strait and steep hill.“

“Visited on 2nd December 2016. Large Castle Rock pub a 10-15 min walk from the station. It’s a 2 roomed venue, nice traditional features, decor is good and got a lovely feel about the place. A good range of Castle Rock cask beer plus guests, all were well kept that we tried, bar staff were friendly and prices were good. A solid old traditional pub and one that is worthy of visiting again.“
