Sloppy Joe’s Bar (Restaurant)
201 DUVAL STREET
“I did not realize about Joe's Tap Room, and being able to bring there stuff over. Though Anne may have been trying to tell me. Tap room side had room once in a while, Sloppy Joe's never did. You have to wait around looking for a table to open. They do not take names. And it is busy all times during February. But Hemingway hung out here so I should too. Beer selection at main bar not that good.“

The Bull (Bar)
224 DUVAL STREET
“Whilst walking along Duval Street taking in the sights, we heard live music from this bar (not hard as the windows have no glass in them!) Decided to go in and have a quick brew. The place is decorated with huge wall murals depicting amongst others Hemingway (of course). Sat at the bar so service was quick. The draught beer choice is fairly large ranging from big commercial brewers lagers through to local craft beers. I had a 'Bushka' Stout by 'Hollywood of Ft. Lauderdale, which I assumed was on draught as it was listed on the beer menu, but was actually just served to me in the can. Also all beer is served in plastic cups, rather than a glass.“

“As a craft beer fan I sought out the Waterfront Brewery KW. They have a large selection of house brewed craft beers available in numerous styles. I had a flight so I could sample a few, namely:- Night Rider-Hefeweizen; Oktoberfest-Märzen; Belgian Sunburn-American Pale Ale and Southernmost Stout. The Stout is superb! Seems like a popular place, we visited mid-afternoon on a November weekday and it was bustling then.“

“Huge place right on the waterfront. Service was friendly. Flights are available but are fixed i.e. you can't choose for yourself. Beers were pretty good, the Wrecked Rooster imperial red being the best. Not bad but not a must visit place. Small arcade in the back for video game fans.“

“Old and divey bar, perfect for a bar crawl if you just want to hop in have a beer and listen to some live music. The bartender softened up a bit once we ordered a few rounds of drinks. Their taplist had a few locals on tap and some other Florida breweries as well. It's not the biggest place on the inside, and it needs some dusting, but it has some character and charm to it. “

“Neat piece of American History being pretty much the building that gave birth to Pan Am Airlines. They building itself is small, but cozy. I liked the touch of history they had in most corners of the building. The beer offering was limited and very bland, but they had a couple one off's as well and one of them was delicious. Sadly they barely gave any information on the one off's just a name and style. They cocktails they served seemed to be popular and the service wasn't too bad. I think this is a good spot if your bar hopping to cross off your list, especially if your looking for the nostalgia of the building. Other than that it was pretty meh for me.“

“Very big location, lots of bar area, seating and a decent amount of TV views for sporting events. I like the gaming area they have there. Our server was really nice and although we were there on a dead night and just for drinks he was personable and made sure our drinks stayed full. The beer itself is very average and I would have liked to have tried the food. Prices were average. Overall I'd say this is a nice place to bring a group of people to, but it surely isn't as cozy and intimate of a place as most beer joints in Key West.“

“Stopped in here with the guys from the Key West group to have a beer, watch a good Rock Band and have friends at home watch us on the web cam. Stopped in at 5pm to get the stated Happy Hour prices while watching a band. They said they don't have happy hour any more. So $26 for 4 glasses of Crazy Lady that I bought for the guys. No beer list, too crowded to ask for a list of beers they have. Good place to watch bands. Lots of people watched from outside on the sidewalk.“

“1st full day in Key West walking back from Mallory Square to the house we passed by here and stopped in for Beers and Apps. This used to be Kelly's until last fall when it changed ownership. Besides thier own 3 beers on tap, they had about 6 others. Plus some bottles. The flatbread, stuffed eggs and chicken wings were good. Nice relaxing place.“

“Patty and I stopped in here the only night it rained during our stay in Key West. I got to have a decent new beer. They had a good draft list, but I've had most of them. We were the only ones in the small places at 1st, but a interesting cast of characters would come in for a quick drink and a chat. Enjoyable place.“

“Stopped in with Patty for a late lunch. 80% full and staff busy for a while clearing tables. At 4pm when the music started they filled up quickly. We got the standard Sloppy Joes and Sloppy Joe Island Ale. They were good enough. While drinking I noticed Joes Taproom and went in and talked to bartender and he said ok to bring his beers into the restaurant. He had some good craft beer on tap.“

“We came here on 24.12.2018. This place is a joke. They only serve beers in plastic cups. I asked the bartender why? His response: it is too time consuming to clean the glasses. Stupid and ignorant. This place might have had some history but completely lost it due to commercial greed.“

“We came here on 24.12.2018 after a round of Golf at the Key West Golf Club. Great views as this brewery is located next to the Marina. Unfortunately you cannot sit outside (they have a small outside area for events only). All guests have to go through a large merchandising store to reach the bar. Of course it is a commercial place as it is located in such an expensive part of the world. The beers are surprisingly good. We tried all 3 IPA‘s and our favorite was the Busted Bridge. Service had no clue about beers, which we expected. Food was OUTSTANDING. Had the Shrimps and Scallops Risotto - 100% recommendable. Overall this brewery was much better than we expected.“

“A large, cavernous brewpub and very American style that could fill a small country on a busy day. Staff were friendly enough, there were a few arcade games at the front. They do flights of their own beers, most are above average but aren't knocking it out of the park. Okay place to try their beers but there are better beer experiences in the area.“

“Had a beer here after lunch at Sloppy Joe’s on a Sunday. This place is basically the back room of Sloppy Joe’s Bar, though they each have their own entrance. Tiny room, with limited seating and more or less no place to just stand around. Beer selection is stronger here, with 10 craft beers on draft and a few bottles available. If you can find a seat here, certainly worth stopping for a beer.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

Sloppy Joe’s Bar (Restaurant)

“Visited for lunch on a Sunday with the family. Large, boisterous room with a large bar and tables throughout the room. Large stage at the front that seemed to feature live music more or less all the time. Food has the famous Sloppy Joe, and other bar type food. Had the pizza, it was solid. Beer list is limited, though the house beer is brewed by Funky Buddha and was tasty. Service is friendly and efficient. If you are in Key West you’ll likely hit this spot, though it won’t be as a beer destination. Better beer choice is Joe’s Tap Room which is connect at the back end of Joe’s and shares a bathroom.

64 = ★★ (Just ok)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Big sports bar, on the waterfront, duh. 6 house beers on during my visit. 12 Guest taps as well. 4 wines available too. Pleasant enough place. Didn’t eat while we were here, so no idea about food. 6 big garage doors open looking at marina. Pool tables and video games available. Solid enough place for a visit, not wowing any of us regulars to ratebeer but good to visit while here“

“If you are a craftbeer fan and visiting KW for at least a couple of days...you’ll end up stopping here. The marina area is pretty nice...and the place itself is quite enjoyable...cavernous building...cool layout...multiple rooms...outside areas...Waterfront really has a lot going for it building and location-wise. The staff was personable and accommodating if not actually providing a high level of service. The beer is what it’s about for us craft travelers though...and that was just OK...as in ranging from not memorable all the way up to not bad (or is the scale the other way around...lol!). I hear the food is decent enough...in kind of a corporate sports bar kind of way...but you’ll need to judge for yourself...because with so much great food in KW...I wasn’t going to waste calories here. Stop here if you need a craftbeer place for your list...but if you just need a craftbeer while in KW...go to Cork & Stogie, The Porch, and Bone Island.“

“Stopped by here while in town for business in mid November ’16. According to legend, this was the back room of Sloppy Joe’s where Hemingway would hang out to get away from the crowds. Have about ten on tap, mostly South Florida regional craft. Opens to the street, nice casual vibe to the place. Prices reasonable for Key West. Conversation flows easily with the barkeep and patrons. Good place to get away from the crowds. Stumbled upon this place without even realizing it was on RB.“

“Visited here twice for lunch while in Key West for business. Large establishment, separate area for games and such, a restaurant/bar area and outdoor seating. Kind of a laid back nautical theme (what did I expect, a log cabin?) with a nice breeze coming through the open doors. Have about 10 of their own on tap, a half dozen r so guest taps - mostly Florida based. The four or so from Waterfront I had were pretty decent, true to style. Service on both visits was friendly and personable. Food was typical Key West style, lots of seafood choices. The shrimp/avocado BLT and swordfish sandwiches were top notch. Worth a visit if strolling through Old Town.“

“Stopped in here while on a cruise. The bar was super huge and spacious. They have a game room to keep you busy if wanted. They had eight beers on tap, but you could only sample 7 and had to buy the other in at least a pint. Kind of annoying. The staff was very friendly. Menu looked good, but we weren’t hungry yet. If in Key West a must stop.“

“Huge place near the marina. Service is very responsive and accommodating. A distinctly separate and very large bar. Dining area is less boisterous and is roomy. Seven of their own brews on tap and 22 guest brews. A full food menu that is seafood-heavy.“

“You’ve gotta hit sloppy joes on a trip to the keys. But, it’s not exactly a beer bar. Yeah, they’ve got the usual stuff in tap but don’t expect to find anything wild. Can get crowded, but music acts are frequent and food is decent. Give it a try.“

“Large crowded bar on the main drag in Key West. Limited selection, decent food, fair prices, and good service. Live music most of the time it seems. There is an adjoining tap room that has about 10 decent selections. Tap room is very small, room for about a dozen to sit.“

“I kept hearing that this was the best bar in Key West during my visit so made sure to check it out. We stopped by one late afternoon for a drink. Big place, crowded, with some live music. Some neat decor, including some Ernest Hemingway stuff. While I am sure this is a fun place, it’s not really a beer place. Fortunately, they had Mile Marker Zero Blonde on tap because the next best beer might have been Key West Sunset Ale or Yuengling. Interestingly, Joe’s Tap Room is connected to Sloppy Joe’s, which is where you can get more craft brews. But our waiter said you can order drinks from Sloppy Joe’s and bring them to the Tap Room, but when I asked to get a beer from the Tap Room to bring back, he said no. I’m pretty sure he was lying. Anyway, check it out (everyone will tell you too), but I think it’s overrated, and definitely don’t go for the beer.“

“Just found this place myself and was happy to have an air conditioned, quiet oasis to the Duval insanity. Beer selection is not great, but good enough. After BMC crap all day it was nice to grab an Arrogant Bastard. With limited selection of good beer on "the Rock" this is a must.“

“Joe’s Tap Room is an off-shoot of Sloppy Joe’s - one of Key West’s most famous bar & grills. The tap room is a bar located behind the stage with a bar that seats about 10, and a couple tables inside and outside.

This bar seems to have been created primarily to cater to craft beer geeks. The sign reads, "Featuring a variety of crafted beers on tap". And they don’t mean Bass and Guinness, they actually have some pretty big hitters here: Rogue Dead Guy Ale; Dogfish Head 60 MIPA; Left Hand Milk Stout; Victory Prima Pils; Stone Arrogant Bastard; Abita Amber Ale; and two Samuel Adams beers.

The prices are quite good as every beer is $5.50 for a plastic pint cup (which has the "Sloppy Joes" logo printed on it, so it doesn’t seem quite so cheap). You can also mix and match and opt for a 5-beer, 3oz sampler for $5.50

Joe’s Tap Room isn’t just a beer bar, as they also have every brand of liquor under the sun available. You can also order from the main Sloppy Joe’s menu and eat at the bar (which I would recommend as the Tap Room is quiet and the main room is noisy with lots of patrons and constant live music).

The main room offers all the BMC beers on tap and 16 BMC bottles. I assume you can order any of these in the Tap Room if you REALLY want to.

Not the best place for craft beer in Key West but it’s a perfect alternative if you want some good food and beer without the hectic atmosphere of most of the Duval Street bars. “

“A restaurant in the middle of the Key West bar scene. The busiest one too, but they manage to maintain excellent service. Nice tropical ambiance with live entertainment in the form of a cover band. Limited selection of beers in the restaurant area, but the taproom in the back has 10 taps or so of decent brews. Average pricing on those beers, but the pours are very generous. Best beer selection unless you want to walk a good walk in the Key West heat to Finnegan’s Wake(I recommend it). Great food, bit expensive, try their BBQ pork sandwich, or the sloppy Joe.“

“One of the best restaurants on the Island, and probably one of the ebst vegetarian restaurants in the country. The food is amazing, from the best tasting veggie burger you’ll ever have, to a killer falafel sandwich. I ordered the brown sugar and surghum stuffed Acorn squash and it was amazing. Come for the food, and enjoy a finally decent selection of craft brew and Whole Food’s type of alternative ingredient beers. You will get stuffed on the large portions of thie very filling vegetarian cuisine.“
