64 /100 29 FRENCHGATE Cosy micropub on Frenchgate just down from the market square in Richmond, where the road goes down to the Station. 3 cask ales on handpulls including local North East (Barnard Castle when visited)/ North Yorkshire (Beer Monkey when visited) breweries. Small bar, and tables & chairs seating. Food available. Worth a look in |
56 /100 THE STATION BREWERY STATION YARD Located inside the old Victorian Station building by the river Swale at Richmond, North Yorkshire. The brewery has now been expanded into the next unit for more space plus addition of a small corner bar. The brewing vessels are on full view, with bottles of beer & cider also for sale. A door now leads directly outside to area with picnic tables and there is an ice-cream parlour situated next door, and Richmond pool is nearby as well. Worth a look when visiting the Station and/or Richmond pool and/or the walks nearby. |
68 /100 Brooke's Richmond (Beer Store) DARLINGTON ROAD GARAGE, DARLINGTON ROAD Deli located inside the Gulf petrol station shop on Darlington road going into Richmond, North Yorkshire. Great selection of bottled beers & cans arranged on a table in the deli section- local & north east real ales including Richmond Brewing Co, Three Brothers, Durham, Barnard Castle, Darwin and craft beers from the likes of Magic Rock, Northern Monk, Thornbridge, First Chop, Beatnikz Republic, Tiny Rebel. The parking space out front is very restricted but it's well worth a stop and look inside. |
56 /100 Ralph Fitz Randall (JDW) (Bar) 6 QUEENS ROAD Wetherspoons located in Richmond a short walk out from the centre Market Place with large dining area and 7 handpulls of fairly standard real ales and 3 of ciders (which were actually being served from BIB behind the bar) the one I wanted was off but they were leaving the pump clip on and trying to offer a bland BIB replacement instead! |
52 /100 Ken Warne Licensed Grocers (Grocery Store) 22 MARKET PLACE Nisa brand grocery store located in Market Place in the centre of Richmond with bottles from regional UK brewers including a range from the Yorkshire Dales Brewery. |
46 /100 Bishop Blaize (Bar) 40 MARKET PLACE Multi-room pub located in the town square in the centre of Richmond. Only 2 handpulls were on with very standard real ales when visited during the day. |
60 /100 Castle Tavern (Bar) MARKET PLACE Traditional pub located next to Bargain Booze in the centre of Richmond. 5 handpulls with 3 (2 beers and a cider) from the Richmond Brewing Co which is based nearby at the Station. Cosy locals pub, worth a visit to try the Richmond Brewing Co offerings at very reasonable price |
52 /100 Ken Warne Licensed Grocers (Grocery Store) 22 MARKET PLACE Grocers store at the top end of the Market Place near Finkle Street with a good selection of local bottled beers. |
46 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) 93 FRENCHGATE This pub is a bit of an institution in Richmond but with difficult midweek opening hours. The local Camra group suggest changing guest beers, this wasn’t my experience as they just had Landlord and Black Sheep Bitter, yawn. Long, narrow building with lots of wall paraphenalia on a nautical theme. Good locals banter. |
62 /100 Bishop Blaize (Bar) 40 MARKET PLACE Large, commanding building on the west side of the Market place, close to the castle. Seems popular with the local lads with pool and t.v, also the fair was in town so this may have had an influence. The guest ales are from local breweries with a couple of new Mithril beers for me. The food was fairly standard pub fare but filling. Probably the best choice in Richmond. |
58 /100 Castle Tavern (Bar) MARKET PLACE Multi roomed town pub right on the Richmond Market Place and thus the centre of town. We chose to take a day off from walking in Richmond and this was one of the pubs we visited. It is an outlet for the local Richmond Brewery so worth a look for that. Comfortable and well used by locals, no food available on our visit. A pleasant town pub. |
56 /100 Ralph Fitz Randall (JDW) (Bar) 6 QUEENS ROAD Large Wetherspoons to the north end of town rather than centrally located as normal. There are 2 distinct drinking areas, the front for adults then families at the back. Somewhat more presentable than many of its ilk, the service was ok on our visit with some reasonable choices too. It’s fine. |
64 /100 Ralph Fitz Randall (JDW) (Bar) 6 QUEENS ROAD Between 5 and 10 real ales on. Always well kept. Lots of local brewers as well as selections from the Wetherspoon national list. Staff do their very best, but as with all Wetherspoons, the place is chronically understaffed, so expect to wait for bar service at busy times. Food always arrives within 15 minutes. |
66 /100 Bishop Blaize (Bar) 40 MARKET PLACE Four real ales at all times from local and national brewers. Always well kept. Timothy Taylor Landlord is the regular. |
40 /100 Turf Hotel (Bar) VICTORIA ROAD Town centre pub that focuses on food. Two hand pumps dispense Tim Taylor’s Landlord and Black Sheep Best Bitter. |
56 /100 Ralph Fitz Randall (JDW) (Bar) 6 QUEENS ROAD Decent Wetherspoons pub with up to 10 real ales on offer plus the usual selection of world beers in bottles. |
62 /100 Bishop Blaize (Bar) 40 MARKET PLACE Excellent pub on the town square. 4 real ales are served and a discount is offered to CAMRA members. |
