50 /100 MARKET PLACE HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND
“This is a well below average JDW in terms of beer range. They have 10 casks, but they are duplicates and they all had very common national beers on at our visit. Not a single local or seasonal beer. Very good and friendly service for a JDW.“

“Regular JDW in the centre of Hexham. Beer selection was a bit disappointing, since they only had all the regulars on like Doom Bar etc. Service was good though and we managed to find a can that we haven’t tasted.“

“Lovely old pub with fireplaces and dark brown interior. The front room is not the biggest, but there is additional seating in the back. They have five casks with local beers and some kegs as well.“

“Nice traditional pub with 5 casks and 7 kegs. Many local beers available here. They serve food, but I didn’t try it.“

Grape & Bean @Bin21 (Beer Store)
31 MARKET PLACE
“The place has changed name to Grape and Bean, with the new outdoor sign saying Wine Bar and Coffee Lounge. There is still a good range of bottled beers with shelves related to regionally soured beers, most of them brewed in the Tyne Valley. Drink-in options with chairs and table in front of the servery. Coffee lounge in a room behind the servery. Friendly service. Close to the market square and the abbey. (Visited with Finn 08.02.2019).“

58 /100 MARKET PLACE HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND
“A fairly typical JDW in a former cinema building. Close to the abbey and market place in Hexham. 10 cask ales. Polite service. Popular with all kinds of people early on a Friday afternoon. We celebrated Finn's latest milestone, 10000 ratings, here. (Visited 08.02.2019).“

“An excellent example of a well-kept traditional British pub. A cozy L-shaped main room in brick and wood, followed by the bar counter to the right and a comfortable back room. Five different cask ales that can be bought in a sample tray of three thirds. Craft beer bottles in the fridge. A local, community feel with a welcome attitude. Attentive and friendly service. We did not eat here but the home made food looked great. The background music did, indeed, match the ambiance; Vera Lynn, crooner- and big band music. Hyggestund! (Visited with Finn 08.02.2019).“

Grape & Bean @Bin21 (Beer Store)
31 MARKET PLACE
“Visited 21/7/2018. Central location by the market and abbey. It's not just a bottle shop, as Bin 21 is combined with Grape & Bean wine bar and it's mainly set out for drinking/eating in with ample seating inside and outside (with a good, simple, food menu). Around 30 beers of note all local and oddly (as it portrays a more up-market feel) a few macro 6 packs hidden away too including fosters, peroni and the like. Very pleasant service. Not really a place to stock up but definitely should be checked out if in town.“

“Visited 21/7/2018. Minimum beer serving 2/3 of a pint. I don't think that's even legal!! Though very pleasant service in the process of declining a smaller serving! 10 ales/ciders mostly local ales but no surprises. Comfortable surroundings. Not especially worth the walk out of town centre tbh.“

“Visited 21/7/2018. Very comfortable pub/kitchen/restaurant attracting a nice clientele and run by people interested in their clientele. 6 cask and 6 keg beers available including 5 local beers, 1 from Hexhamshire brewery and an exclusive by Allendale which the Heart design. 3 x 3rds available. Food very good. Enjoyable visit.“

50 /100 MARKET PLACE HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND
“Visited 21/7/2018. You know it's a 'spoons before you go in. Everything says 'spoons about it once inside. But beer selection wasn't as good as what you get in most. A couple of beers from High House Farm were the only beers of any interest but they weren't in good nick.“

“Visit on trip to 24 Northern counties with OGJ 06.01.18. Five ales on cask, all served without sparkler. Large place, with its own faimly area.“

“Very lairy at the height of a Saturday afternoon. Not a great selection on tap: we ended up having a bottle of Allendale Adder Lager. Chips and onion rings were nice though.“

66 /100 MARKET PLACE HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND
“Visited on Monday afternoon during the shortest day of 2015. Just set back off the market square this is an old cinema conversion I think. Nice place, plenty of room. Beer range wasn’t great. Had a Canadian collab on plus the usual Greene King tat. Beer was well kept and £2.05 a pint. Bargain. Worth a pop in for a quick beer and check in but not the best place in town.“

68 /100 5 MARKET ST,
“Visited on Monday 21st December 2015 in mid-afternoon. Newly opened venue which was formerly the Heart of England. It’s a single roomed gastro pub, 13 taps with 2 craft kegs tucked away at the end and 5 handpulls, 1 of which is cider. Beer I had was well kept, prices decent, service a little slow but still messing around with things as just opened. Food did look good but I didn’t partake. Nice venue, between Tannery and Spoons so an easy stop-off.“

“Visited on Monday 21st December in the afternoon. Situated a 10 minute walk from the station and having dodged the traffic heading to the Tesco warehouse this place was a welcome sight. 2 rooms with a bar in the middle, the lounge side had ciders and the bar side had beers. 6 of each on tap. Mostly from the local area. Well kept and prices decent. Food was good. I opted for the haggis sandwich with chips. Excellent. It’s got the meat, ale, cider thing going on which is popular. Nice spot. Why change a winning formula?“

31 MARKET PLACE
“Visited on Monday 21st December 2015 in late afternoon. Nice place on the Market Square just around the corner from Spoons. Beers on the right hand side as you walk in, a good selection of local bottles, prices were decent. Service friendly. Main focus is wine and spirits, also had a good selection of local gins too. Worth popping in if you’re in Hexham“

66 /100 MARKET PLACE HEXHAM NORTHUMBERLAND
“This pub doesn’t have the biggest of fronts but it goes back quite deep including a lower pit area at the very rear, and is much wider by the bar area that is situated in the middle of establishment. Other than the two ends of the building there’s little natural light in this place so it has its own artificial atmosphere for the most part with a low ceiling and warming carpet and the standard wooden tables.. Ales are on two rows of pumps at the bar.“
