The Black Market venue is not your typical high street pub, in fact the high street itself doesn’t look or feel like a normal high street ending as it does here at this venue at a dead end. We arrived here Saturday 17th December 2016 to see Ferocious Dog at their annual indoor winter Festival called somewhat imaginatively Dogfest. The pub/music venue/club (it caters for all these) it reasonably centrally placed, and sits across from the main road A60 that links Worksop and Mansfield.

The building itself is brick built and if truth be told a little ugly. There is parking at the rear and a covered areas for smokers. The side of the venue facing the road is more pub/club like with seating, pool and snooker tables a large screen for sport and the bar which is more centrally located to link in with the bar that caters for the other side i.e. the music venue. The main music venue, I say main because I understand smaller acts will use the club/pub side, but the main music side is quite large. An arced ceiling large rectangular expanse with stage at one end and bar at the other, the venue holds about 500 I understand. There is some seating on the music venue side but not too much.

Beer choice is generally macro stuff such as Guinness and large brand lagers, however they have their own Black Market Brewery Beers on (two beers were available, namely Illicit and Imposter) and I thought that these were very good and at £3.00 a pint very reasonably priced. The clientele was quite mixed but on this occasion all had a shared interest (Ferocious Dog) everyone but everyone was really friendly including bar staff. This is not your normal pub, but if you want to try the Black Market beer and you’re in the vicinity it’s worth popping in. .“
