68 /100 601 PENISTONE ROAD, Large place with a good cider and beer selection. Free WiFi. Beer garden & pool table. It's won a couple of Camra awards so worth a visit if you are in the area. Friendly service. |
68 /100 601 PENISTONE ROAD, Historic purpose built tiled pub facing the main A road through the lower part of Hillsborough. As the name indicates it's behind the former barracks buildings away from the busy suburban centre. A Castle Rock concern, you'll find some of their ales here but guests too, including some crafted keg. A small games room with its own external door is immediately to the left as you enter. The main bar is effectively in its central hallway, but the large best room is open plan in front of this. Other areas exist such as a pool table space but head to the large garden area in good weather for the best of them. Pays homage to Sheffield Wednesday too. |
66 /100 601 PENISTONE ROAD, Popped in here before Sheffield speedway. Huge pub on the main drag. Cask offering were from Castle Rock, Acorn and Bradfield and pretty uninspiring. Cask beer was served too cold. Keg beer uninspiring. Disappointing. |
62 /100 601 PENISTONE ROAD, Cavernous locals bar a bit off the beaten track. Decent enough to visit if in the neighbourhood, but better options abound in the city centre. |
78 /100 601 PENISTONE ROAD, Friendly local ’Real Ale’ public house.
Regular house beers rub shoulders with guests.
A fine selection of beers, and a small but adequately stocked bottle fridge.
