“Only taken me 20 years to visit this. Quick in-out to visit the loos (corridor, steps, corridor, steps, corridor) and make a train beer purchase. Strong eau-de-curry permeating the atmosphere. Average Spoons size. Situated along the pedestrianised area in Wellington town centre. Can't think of anything else of note that differentiates it from any other Spoons.“

“Small wooden café with a few red bricks. Some Camden taps and occasional guest, a glass fronted fridge with bottles and cans from interesting breweries. Note the opening times, this is inside the Market so it's a day time venue really, although there is a back way into the Market and they sometimes have evens during the evening, like the Tiny Rebel 11th Birthday Party I attended earlier this year, or the monthly 'Late Night Market'. Friendly staff and customers and always something new for me in the fridge“

“Very disappointing pub with no real ale on my visit. Great Tudor building but there seems to be no interest in beer and overall not worth visiting. Could be good with a landlord who is interested in real ale.“

“Very smart renovation by the Joules brewery. The building has been carefully rebuilt. Its now more of a food pub with good quality meals and it only serves Joules beers with no guest beers at all which is very disappointing.“

“This is an excellent farm shop with a butchers, deli, huge selection of local beers (bottles/cans) from small breweries - Clun, New Brew, Salopian, Green Duck, Noble Craft (Market Drayton), Stonehouse, Hobsons, Wye Valley etc. There is a cafe at the back serving food and drinks where you can drink any of the beers on the shelf. Recommended!“

“Popped in just before last orders (about 10pm) on the Friday before Christmas. Small, cosy, good selection of cask and tap beers with a well stocked fridge of cans and bottles.“

“Like Jeremy mentioned this is a very good butchers with an array of home-made marinades, sauces and suchlike in addition to the meat. Accompanying this is a decent selection of beer from Shropshire and West Midlands. If you're unfamiliar with beer from the region you could easily leave with a good 30 or so beers, all reasonably priced and some such as Plan B and Clun Brewery fairly hard to find outside of places like this. I left with a new Three Tuns beer and some pork and apple burgers.“

“Visited on the evening of the Queen's funeral, purely to get away from any mention of it, and by the looks of the men sat by themselves on each table I wasn't the only one. This is the sister pub of the Coracle, already established for a number of years in Ironbridge. It's a similar size, perhaps marginally bigger and with a couple of outside tables which we used. Selection is similar to the Coracle, equal mix of cask and keg, nothing too crazy in terms of strength, style and price everything quite reasonable. One upright single fridge with a modest arrange of cans, a few sharing bottles. Quiet background music. Clearly more chilled and laid back in feel to a standard pub atmosphere, and as such quite refreshing.“

“Living in the same town, it’s bad that it’s taken me this long to visit, but today, I finally managed to pop in to grab a joint of beef for our roast dinner on Sunday. (I’ll report back on the beef quality) Very well populated butchers and deli with loads of local and fresh produce. A cafe at the back which we didn’t have time to visit but I’m sure is great. A large beer shelf towards the back with a good variety of bottles, including Wye Valley, Hobsons, Salopian, Oldfiels and much more. As well as the beer shelf, there’s a good selection of random bottles dotted around the shop on other shelves and counters. I picked up a bottle of Black Country Ales - Pig on the wall and a bottle of Stonehouse sidelines - Dunkel. I’m sure they’ll go down well with my beef.“

“I was invited to the 'Soft Opening' on 7th July 2022. Corner unit, basic layout, duck egg green wooden bits with functional chairs. Can fridge, interesting cask and keg lines which will change on a regular basis. Same people own 'the Coracle' down in Ironbridge, this will be run along the same lines (so should be great). I had two new cask rates, two new keg rates and a new can rate during my visitation. Pleased they have opened up in my town.“

“This is really a high class Butcher's shop with an interesting deli selection incorporating beer shelves (local Gin and wines too). There is also a café at the back where you can sit and have an alcoholic drink, or coffee! Only opened in August 2021 and is going from strength to strength. Stocks beers from Hobson's, Ludlow, Green Duck, Salopian, Woods, Stonehouse and Weetwood at the moment. My good lady and I have been in weekly since it opened and I'm rating something new on every visit (that will cease to happen soon though, unless they bring in new beers).“

“Tudor style white-washed older-world style bar, which is quite nice with a couple of rooms aside of a central doorway. The building is great to frequent but the beer selection is pretty dull. I had something off keg in here which was new to me at the time in 2018, but it never made a lasting impression as I can't remember what!!“

“Close to the car park areas, it's quite a decent looking pub for the street, and extends quite deep inside, although there's a chain bar traditional appearance on the inside with sport, certainly a locals bar. The only new brew for me was a craft cider in a bottle, which I've since seen on the shelves in Home Bargains! But it was new at the time!“

“Very old, small pub sandwiched between two streets. Has a lot of potential but just doesn't quite do it for me. Seemed soulless on my last visit. Ok selection of beers. Just needs an injection of something. I will always pop in when in town for a swift one.“

“I avoid this place like the plague. Sports bar that sells cheap lager, the kind of place where if you make eye contact with the wrong person, you'd get a thumping. As BlackHaddock said, this place shouldn't really be on here.“

“More of a local pub full of Carling drinkers. Close to the football stadium, you will find a lot of football fans here pre and post match. The friendly owners also support the local team and sponsor the odd match. Clean and friendly, just lacking a decent selection of beers. Hosts quiz nights, karaoke and darts.“

“Needs a lick of paint but other than that, a decent enough pub. Relatively decent selection of cask ales (or there was when i last visited at least) The only beer i can remember drinking here was Thornbridge's Jaipur. Regularly hosts live music and has a pool table. **UPDATE January 2022** They must of seen my comment about needing a lick of paint. The place has been taken over by a local brewery and completely overhauled. Still a good selection of cask ales (from memory I had a pint of Wrexham Lager and ABK Hell). Bonus point as I was served by my cousin.“

“Probably the best pub in Wellington in my opinion. Traditional pub with great ambiance and decor, feels like how a proper pub should feel. Great selection of beers with 10+ taps. Obviously with the brewery out in the back they serve some of their own brew (Rowton) Food also available but I've never eaten here. Highly recommend this place.“

“Atmosphere here is great, large seating area outside mostly block paving with benches and a small grassy bit at the far end. Nice friendly 'locals' feel inside, always busy. However, had to bring a beer back due to being sour and undrinkable with a multitude of off-flavours and looking quite mucky in the glass. Bar staff nodded and agreed, said it had been like that since they put it on but said landlord refused to take it off. That's a big red flag in my book unfortunately. Reluctant down-rate and probably won't be back. June 25th 2019: Probably the best pub in Wellington. Its a fairly smart looking pub inside, with a pleasing array of cask, with two from locals Rowton on this visit plus Everards and other Everards pub regulars. Two box ciders. Only realised when i sat down there was around 6 or 7 keg beers as well, though curiously missing on the large beer menu board. Lots of crisps. Dog friendly.“

“Visited post-refurbishment and I must say it's extremely well done, with an extension beyond the bar and seating in what used to be the car park with what looks like a rustic barn with stool seating around barrels. Really impressive. It does seem to be a food-oriented place, most groups arriving for meals. Beer wise, it focuses solely on the Joules range, with one limited edition pale ale on cask. Unfortunately I had to bring this back due to being sour and way past its best. Barman offered a replacement beer, the Joules Pure blonde which was also sour and way past its best. Not a good sign. Won't return. June 25th 2019: Under new management and now part of the Joules Brewery regional empire. Unlike other recently renovated Joules pubs in the county this old place is in need of a little TLC, or at least a lick of paint. Previous visitors to the pub will notice the Belgian beer selection is long gone, with a focus on Joules beers, plus Leffe & Hoegaarden on tap. Perhaps a little cheeky keeping the banners proudly boasting of their CAMRA national finalist accolades on the wall outside given how radically different the pub is now. Hopefully Joules will invest and turn this pub back round to its glory days.“

“I visited recently (Dec 2008) and it seemed a little run down since my last visit a year earlier. I believe it's in the middle of a takeover / revamp so only fair i review again later in the year. As a Belgian beer fan, i was disappointed to learn the Belgian beer area has been removed. Still, lots of great local ales and pork pies. EDIT: It's been taken over by Joules Brewery now. Looks fantastic since the refurb and extension. Decent selection of Joules beer on tap. Just feels a bit chain restauranty, doesn't quit have that character the old place had.“

“In a modern brick building on a short walk south west of the town centre, it's slightly worn looking on the inside but pleasant enough. There's a pretty good focus on cask ales in here so it's worth a visit. There's three rooms here made into an open plan space around its central bar.“

“In a pedestrianised street in the town centre close to the bus and rail terminals, this is a traditionally furnished pub in the chain in a large open plan shop unit set-up. There's plenty of chairs and tables, two rows of ale pumps which carried the festival ales on them during my visit, and some outdoor seating where you can people watch shoppers in the daytime.“

“Close to the Cock Hotel on the road from it that will take you to the centre, this place has a strange alleyway entrance at its side. Traditional in style once inside, its focus is on television sport and pub games and has a clientele that wants this! There's a number of hand pumps at the bar, they may not all be used (2 ales available on my visit), and both were from a regional micro on my visit. This is the only pub that I visited in Wellington that there were no new beers for me in their selection.“

“Large corner pub with a central entrance hall. The bar to the left of this has a large number of cask ales available making it worth a walk from the centre, although as it's on the main roads just to the south of this it's very accessible by road too. Traditional in style, there's a corner room to the right of the entrance hall slightly away from the action, but offering a quiet place to sup for much of the day!“

“Visited on Friday 14th October 2016. Long, narrow town centre pub, plenty of seating and an inordinate amount of flat screen TVs showing football, Bristol City v Cardiff was not a big draw and the pub was fairly quiet. Decor is OK, 3 handpulls on the bar, 2 from the Banks’s/Marstons stable and Oracle from Salopian. Had 2 pints of different beers and both in decent condition. Service decent enough, prices good. It’s a reasonable local boozer, nothing special. Beer well looked after though.“

“Played football for this pub many years ago, my wife played darts for them too. Community pub with a local clientele, basic open plan place with a few Sport TV’s dotted about. Usually three cask ales, sometimes four. Carling is their largest seller. Live acts and pub games (darts and domino teams) keep the place busy. Mid-week Happy Hours and friendly owners,“

“Visited on 23rd April 2016. A deceptively large pub which is just around the corner from the Cock Hotel. It’s got a small but decent range of beer, always features Wye Valley beers plus guests from the local breweries. Six Bells on tap when we visited. Beer was in good condition and prices were decent. It’s popular with locals watching sport but still has a decent feel to it. It’s a decent enough local pub.“

“Visited on 23rd April 2016. Town centre pub that advertises Salopian beers on the outside (never a bad thing!). It’s a little tired, rough and ready, two bars, one had some sort of disco/karaoke going on and was deserted, the other was busy with locals. 3 beers on tap, 2 from Salopian and one from Six Bells, beer in good condition, prices not bad. Service OK. It’s not a regular haunt in town but may pop in now and again.“

“Visited with BlackHaddock, and I’m very glad I did. Landlord Pete was very friendly and helpful, and the clientele were very welcoming. There’s a large front room (the Wrekin Bar) with a big variety of casks available, always including a mild and a stour or porter. Sunny and bright back room (or maybe front), used for a time as a Belgian style bar, that still offers some Belgian bottles and has lots of pictures of cocks on the walls. Hotel upstairs, as the name implies. I also enjoyed some Tight Head ale here, so there you go! Really nice place.“

“Effective brewery tap for Ironbridge and Wrekin brewery. A nice traditional pub layout. 7 or 8 cask ale taps, 2 cider taps and looked like about 7 or 8 kegs of more usual stuff set up behind the bar. Only 2 of these were from the brewery itself. Friendly service. A couple of things I’d change. Some sort of simple hot food option would draw in more folk - currently panini is as close to a real meal as it goes. Secondly, the selection is massively biased towards golden ale style. An amber plus a stout from the brewery itself would be great.“

“It's not been demolished, it's a thriving bar again! Summer of 2021. Refurbished during the last few weeks (July 2014) and re-opened with a well known local landlord who is into ’Real Ale’ and live bands. I popped in the other evening and had a couple of pints, both were fine. There will be a regular changing selection of light coloured cask ales along with the usual lager fonts. Open plan with a pool room towards the back.“

“Not too sure what this pub is doing on this site: I certainly would not have placed it on our database: but as I live in Wellington I thought I’d rate it for anyone who cares to read it. Sports bar with TV’s dotted all over the walls in all drinking areas expect the two outside bits. Cheap keg and cask beers almost all day with a clientele to match. It’s name changed from The Raven to Rasputins a few years ago, it was then refurbished and reinvented as a sports bar and given it’s old name back. I rarely use it. Not somewhere I would take visitors or the wife. Staff are fine, but this is not a beer hunters venue.“

“Great new addition to the Wellington pub scene: Ironbridge brewery have left their old site by the River Severn and taken up residence behind this pub that they’ve had completely refurbished. Impressive line up of hand-pulls, with the keg taps behind, up the wall, US style. Only opened on 2nd May but looks like it’s going to be good. No food at night, platters at lunchtimes, not tried them yet. The staff are a mixed bag, some experienced Real Ale types, others clueless, but they have time to learn, which hopefully they will.“

“Re-opened on 24th November 2021 after two years of closure. Now owned by the Rowton Brewery. It's their live music bar and along with their own cask ales (and guests) they stock interesting keg beers and a 'craft fridge'. Completely refurbished after a flooding and being left to rot by the previous owners, it's now rocking place to drink in.“

“My closest ’Spoons’: opened in 2012 if I remember correctly. Formally a discount store although a pub stood here many, many years ago. Nicely decorated with local pictures and the like, bright by the front windows, gets darker as you progress inwards. Smoking area outside to the right once inside. Food area towards the rear sometimes sends out ’foody smells’ which annoys me a little. Good manager since it opened, he trains other managers too, so always good service (although as usual with Spoons, always at least one member of staff too less than required.). Always a Salopian brew on along with the regular casks plus between 4 and 6 guests: often has Limestone, Slaters or local Shropshire breweries on. Toilets are upstairs and a good hike from the single roomed bar. Food is typical Spoons.“

“A decent pub on the edge of the town centre. Has live music on in the evenings and Sunday afternoons. Has 5 or 6 ales on and a couple of real ciders. Generally local brews feature on 3 or 4 pumps with guests from Micros across the UK on the others. Kelham Island, Oakham, Pot Belly have featured recently (March 2014). A decent pub and worth a drop in if in the area“
