I’d placed maybe a dozen orders with MW from 2008-2010, was always happy with the quality of their equipment and materials, the crush of their grain, freshness of hops, prices, and speed. They were my favorite among several other outstanding online suppliers (although Austin deserves special recognition, too). My old rating was a cheerful .
After several years and several moves to different cities, I’ve started back up brewing at home and decided to go with MW. Really happy I did! Well-packed and fast shipment, everything accounted for and in good shape. Their online support is courteous and, perhaps more importantly, extremely fast (essentially real-time); that’s the main reason I’ll be doing all my online shopping with MW this year.
As for prices, I’m now more aware of what various component pieces cost, and where I previously assumed I’d be paying extra for the convenience of MW-assembled equipment, I can now say their kits and builds cost about as much as if I made them from hardware store pieces; the margins on those items must be pretty thin, and MW must be thriving on volume, which makes sense for such a respectable company. Kudos all around, guys!
They’ve always had what I need. Service might be a bit better--I’ve had to search for some items without assistance. Store is basically a big open warehouse, so not much by way of ambiance. Nice selection of material and prices not so bad.
Ordered some stuff online. Selection is outstanding. I like that you can order different sizes of grains and they even ground them if needed. Huge selection of malts, hops, yeast and additives. Shipping wasn’t that bad 8.95 from Fed-ex, pretty quick and accurate. Will order in the near future.
I ordered some items from their online store, but I have never been to the actual shop.
Great selection of products and ingredients. I ordered one of their pale ale recipe kits (I’m waiting for it to bottle condition as I type) and all the grains and hops were fresh and the extracts were packaged well.
I also bought some Star-San and tubing from them, both of which were packaged well and arrived completely intact (as I would expect).
Quick confirmation and order status/shipping email. I went with the regular ground shipping option and it was just fine.
I’ll definitely buy more items from these guys in the future.
Midwest is one of 4 Online Homebrew Stores I use.
They are excellent, with a great range of equipment, kits, and brewing supplies. Only Austin Homebrew comes close in my experience, but Midwest has the biggest selection.
The website is easy to use, and funtional. I apprciate the orginization of the menus as I find them logical to the way I fill my recipies.
I also recieved a great how to video on home brewing with a section on all grain that gave me the guts to try it (now that is all I do)
The only downside is that shipping is expensive and very slow in New Jersey Ɨ or 8 days usually).
Finally made it to the other big homebrew store in the metro! They have pretty much every thing a homebrewer would want. Much the same selection as Northern Brewer in St. Paul, however Midwest has far more growing supplies.
