Great big foamy 2" head.. good retention and leopard spot lace.. the brew is a pale gold... Grapefruit hoppiness out of the gates... hop dominant with only enough pale malts to make it interesting. Flavor is a snap-shot of a bare-bones IPA.. the malts are present.. but only to make sure the hops come out stomping... I may be imagining caramel malts.. but this brew has American "C" hops written all over.. dry finish with a citric bite. The body is on the lite side.. carbonation feels right... but overall, this seems like too many other Lagunitas brews.

I enjoyed this beer a lot, I’d say my favorite Lagunitas so far (only tried about 4 kinds though). It pours a clear golden-slight amber color. Smells fruity and hoppy, I thought like grapefruit. When I sipped it reminded me of a hoppy juicy-fruit bubblegum flavor, with a citrus-grapefruit theme going on. I also noticed that it may be dry hopped. Bitter aftertaste cause of the hops, but a very well balanced blend, as the hops don’t overwhelm the sweetness. It even says on the label "This is Not an IPA, just a good American Pale Ale" I would have to agree. Updated 7/20/09- Tried this again for the 2nd time couple days ago. Sampled the Hop Stoopid the night after and liked that a lot too, as well as a few other Lagunitas since this original post. Might be changing my mind on my "favorite" Lagunitas comment, as I adjusted my rating down slightly, but still a VERY good release.

Deep gold color. White head. Toffee, honeycomb, mandarin oranges. Flavor is sweet, honeycomb, fruity hops, caramel. Nice.

It poured a clear orange color with a small white head. The aroma was lightly hopped with a nice note of citrus underneath. The flavor was some bitter and dry hops mixing with some light citrus and some very light malts. Another decent APA.

Bottle:   Clear amber, somewhat coppery, moderate white head, spotty lacing, light carbonation.   Nose of citrus rind and hops, all fairly subtle.   Slightly sweet.   Very much a semi-sweet citrus rind up front, minor hop aspects on the back.   Comes across as a nice Pale Ale.   Really citrusy on the back side, lots of sweet rind.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Clean on the finish.   Not heavy, nor light.   I thought this was going to be an IPA but it certainly feels and tastes like a really nice Pale Ale.

Bottle from South Bay Drugs: A delightful and aromatic scent full of fresh green hops as well as a balance of malts is dealt in the aroma. The appearance is a firm layer of foam head that leaves behind a sticky trail of lacing while the beer is a straw blonde hue. Flavors are mild with enough hops to not look down on the taste of the beer but I think the malts are what really pull this together and make it more suitable to be classified with the rest of the pale ales.

22 ounce bottle, lets hope for the best with this old bottle. Pours cloudy orange amber color with a fairly dense 2 finger off white head with great retention that reduces to a fairly thick lacing cap. Some lacing sticks to the glass as you drink as well. Aromas of caramel, bread, pine, grapefruit, orange zest, and a bit of spiciness. Interesting IPA aromas, but nice stuff. Taste of big grapefruit, caramel, pine, orange zest, and a bit of breadiness. Big sweetness in the front followed by a decent amount of bitterness on the finish that lingers with pine and citrus flavors. A bit more malt forward on this one as expected from the age of the bottle. Medium carbonation and body; with nice smooth drinkability that goes down easily. No alcohol in the taste or finish. Overall a very nice IPA from Lagunitas, even if it was old.

Reviewed from notes. Pours a nice golden color with a white head. The nose is nice with a good bit of orange, grapefruit, and a hint of pine. The taste is nicely hoppy with a good amount of citrus. Hazy light amber color; medium sized creamy head. Good hop aroma, maybe not too fresh, but nice indeed, with resiny hops, fruity, a bit creamy. Toffee flavor, on the dry side; nevertheless the body is well constructed, even if lean, and smooth; the bitterness is extremely high and resiny, leading to a strong final. Maybe too old and not fresh anymore, but it shows all the qualities of Lagunitas.
