COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

A beautiful copper pour, very cloudy with a one finger, frothy ivory colored head. Nose is very bready, earthy, herbal... Some spice. Slightly creamy with a spritz, caramel, earthy tones, dark fruit, yeast, celery, cardboard at times. Well made, not spectacular though.

330ml bottle served in an ordinary glass. Pours a very cloudy dark orange to amber color forming a medium, creamy and very persistent beige head. Forms and leaves lots of lingering lacings in the glass. Nose is sweet. Very bready and fruity. Notes of oranges and dry dark fruits. Raisins and herby hops. Slightly sweet upfront taste. Strong notes of caramel malts, sweet bread, oranges and raisins. Phenols give it some bubblegum hints. Grassy and considerable hops bitterness. Heavy body, medium carbonation. Caramel, dry fruits and grassy hops in the aftertaste. Great Belgium Xmas beer.

Bouteille. Couleur orange, mousse ivoire. Odeurs de fruits oranges, de caramel, de bonbon. Saveurs sucrées, orange, candi, épices (poivre, coriandre). Sucres bien intégrés et moyenne amertume. Complexe cette triple de Noël !

11.2floz bottle, BBD: 08.08.2018, paid around $1.50 as a single sale price. Poured into a tulip glass, where a sticky beige head forms atop a murky rust colored body. The aroma is of simple sugary light/amber malts. Medicinal tasting, Belgianesque but not overly defining. Mineral aftertaste. Glad I got this on sale, because it would be disappointing at full price. Passable basic ale, but not something that fits any drinking situation when other options are going to be readily available.
