UPDATED: MAR 4, 2020 330ml bottle. Dark brown with a thick foamy beige head. Flavors are roasted cereals, toffee, molasses, smoked meat, charred wood and resinous hops with fruity notes. Full body, moderate to good carbonation, silky texture.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2020 Bottle from HB&B. It pours pretty much much black with a sturdy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, deep sweet smoked character, bacon fries, sticky smoked bbq ribs, oily and unctuous, molasses, dark fruits and jammy edge. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet initially, rather savoury, oily, unctuous, meaty, toasty, roasted malt, deep smoked vibes, bonfire, sticky bbq ribs, slightly jammy, molasses and splash of Dr Pepper. Finish is sticky, bitter - sweet and smokey. Medium+ body and fine, foamy carbonation. Rich, smokey and decadent. Really enjoyed this one.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2020 Bottle: Poured a dep brown color beer with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep smoked malt notes with some caramelized cereal notes also perceptible. Taste is also a great mix of deep smoked malt notes with some caramelized malt notes and a semi-dry finish. Body is full with good carbonation. Another German smoked beer masterpiece.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2020 Opaque deepest brown with a moderate off-white head of good retention. Aroma: smoked cheese, caramel, toast, dried fruit, plum marmalade. Medium to full body. Appropriate carbonation. Taste: toasted malts, smoked, dried fruit, chocolate, roast, pleasant hop. Medium bitterness. I expected a lot. In fact: A masterpiece. I'm shocked.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2020 'Gänstaller Bräu Affumicator', Fläschchen aus der Bierothek, BA. - Tiefdunkles Kastanienbraun, üppiger hellbrauner Schaum. - In der Nase schweres, tiefes dunkles Malz, tief karamelsüß und solide doch rund rauchig, phenolisch. - Antrunk sämig schwer dunkelmalzig mit intensiver doch perfekt eingebundener Rauchigkeit, Lakritz, Karamel, Teer. Gedämpfte zitrusfruchtige Hopfenherbe. Mild rezent, breit; gut kaschierter Alkohol. Noch im Abgang dominiert das schwarze Rauchmalz; die milde Hopfenherbe bleibt im Hintergrund. - Enorm malzschwerer doch runder Doppelbock von großer Tiefe, wenngleich arg phenolisch. (16.1.2020.)

UPDATED: SEP 30, 2019 Aromas are smoke and caramel malt. Flavors are sweet up front with some bitterness building towards the end hindered by the poor carbonation, otherwise flavors are much like nose.

UPDATED: JUL 24, 2019 RBESG 19 Grand Tasting. FOR MICHAEL! Murky brown-red-orange taste, white head. Smoke and beans in the aroma? Sweet smokey taste, bacon and beans with a bitter hoppiness. Sadly, didn't work with me.

UPDATED: APR 3, 2019 Rauchbier (a smoked Doppelbock in this case) by – to me – one of Germany’s most exciting new breweries, bottle from Geers near Ghent. Foamy, creamy, frothy, egg-white, stable head over a hazy bronze-tinged deep orange beer with ruddy-coppery tinge. Aroma of smoked bacon, wet cigarette tobacco, sundried tomatoes, biscuit, dried mango, bitter honey, candied apple, plum brandy, almond. Sweet onset with fig, candied cherry and peardrop aspects, medium carbonation, smooth and oily, full body, bit ‘glueish’ even. Full caramelly, biscuity malt body, sweetish but the sweetness quickly countered by a very outspoken smokiness, smoked meat and even tobacco jumping to mind, herbal hop note, with still that rounded, luscious malt sweetness remaining. The smokiness does linger in the end, with a touch of warming but generally well-hidden alcohol rounding things off. A very interesting strong Rauchbier indeed, combining the full, sweet, rounded, generous maltiness of a (pale) Doppelbock with the meaty punchiness of the smoked malt. Delicious smoked Gänstaller beer once again!

UPDATED: APR 2, 2019 Medium, very dense, fine & regular yellow head over red-amber beer. Phenolic, tarry nose, tarred poles, smoked ham etc. Lightly sweetish, very phenolic character; smoked mackerel, light but present mineral/salty flavour. Hint at waffle syrup, maltsugar. Very oily-slick, well-bodied, light alcoholheat, mild carbonation. Aftertaste has just a hint at acidity. Quite balanced, if outspoken phenolic Rauchbock. Like it.
