Wells and Young has always been a favourite brewer of mine. This is a fine example of a fine British style. It pours a beautiful copper colour, and while the head may be small, it lasts. Aroma is caramel and hops, nothing more. Flavour is well balanced and refreshing. This is a beer I could drink for hours.

Dark amber/cider color; Medium slight creamy body; Aroma of malt, & floral hops; Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, hops, and some citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Overall, decent bitter.

Pint bottle: December 2006 from BA. I drank this beer in a London pub, in cask condition while watching a World Cup match (football) last summer. I was not impressed and thought it might just be a celler, landlord, pub problem. Now I have tried a bottle, I am not so sure, I think it is a beer I do not really like or enjoy drinking. Quarter inch thick, off-white head sat atop a light amber beer ina pint sleeved glass, looked OK. The aroma and taste were of sweet malts, a fizzy hoppiness and nothing else, not great in my opinion. Very poor mouthfeel, no lasting flavours or aftertaste. Not a beer I will be searching for, or even trying again.

Copper colour beer, with a fine head. Woody aroma. Flavour is nice and sweet and hoppy.

I like other Young’s Products but this seemed a bit watery to me. I want to say this was a commemorative brew for some English world cup run, both the beer and England could have done better.

Visually, this beer is quite nice. Deep amber color with ruby highlights. About a one finger head that levels out to a thin layer quickly with decent lacing. Smells lightly of yeasty breads, with a faint sweetness form the malts peeking through. A little bit of caramel/toffee also present. Earthy, piney, and just a little bit hoppy. A slight bit of sweetness to balance it out. Malts are in there, but they are down deep. It’s nice in the mouth, if a bit too light. No offense is given to the tongue, but no real excitement either. Very smooth and drinkable, but not a whole lot going on in this one. Would not be a hassle to drink alot of these, but I’d probably drink something else, instead.

23 Oct 2006 - Light hop and light sweet roast malt aroma. Clear amber colour, lowish head and ordinary suds lacing. Big hop and light fruity malt flavour. Tangy hop and slight fruit finish.

Bottle. Froth, off-white head that diminishes quickly. The body is a hazy, medium amber. Pleasant English aroma of toasted bread, dough, raisin, toffee and caramel. Some light hop notes of orange peel and herbs. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It fnishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body with a watery texture. Soft carbonation. A slight metallic flavor in the finish.
