biggsbowler (635) - Port St. Lucie, Florida, USA - FEB 27, 2017Bottle - Pours a murky brown. Nose is raspberry, oak, slight apple. Taste is raspberry, cherry, hint of vinegar, lemon zest, tart. Slightly oxidize but still enjoyable.
ctipping (4084) - Florida, USA - FEB 27, 2017750 mL bottle. Aggressive pour yields a murky deep red body with a few bubbles, but no head. Smells of raspberry. Maybe some cherry? A little bit of sweet caramel. Smells very acidic. Green apples. And definitely some oxidation. Tastes of sour green apples, raspberry, and just a hint of cherry. The cherry is a little sweet. Oxidation behind the sourness, but not excessive. Completely flat. It’s well past its prime, but it has some redeeming qualities still.
dreadnord (1012) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 8, 2013Real bummer to have pulled the cage and have the cork pop so fast I couldn’t do anything about it. Half the bottle ended up on the ground. But for the half I did drink, pours was transparent ruby red with a little pink head. The nose was big fruity raspberry, cherry with lemony lactic acid. The taste was high sour, medium high sweet and no bitter. Texture is crisp and clean, body light and finish long. Very good.
Godofthecellar (677) - NYC, New York, USA - APR 20, 2013Reminds me of hommage, fresh raspberry jam, very funky. Dark berry and funk, sout after notes
TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - APR 15, 2013750 ml bottle acquired in trade long ago. I can’t remember from who, but thank you. Opened for Mad Men Season 5 Premiere. Cheers to that! Rating #4200. Pours a rich glowing berry hue, copper glow, fiery edges of berry and crimson. A hazy body and lively carbonation. Really slow gusher, probably helped it had sat in the fridge for over a month unmoved. A bigger offwhite head atop dies to a smaller layer, small lacing. Aromas are rich seedy and pulpy raspberry. Big seedy raspberry, red wine and oak. Some vanilla, firmer lactic sourness hits the nostrils, lush and big. Some cherry, oak, and wet mellow maltiness. Richer oranges (though secondary to that big lush raspberry presence) as it warms. Some funk, big lactic and seedy raspberry presence. Just heavenly. Initial is big and sour, rich sour berry with huge raspberry, seedy and sour, big lemony sourness, some funk, a touch acedic but not really. Just big sour berry as some tannic barrel, oak, and red wine offer some life into the middle. That lush big raspberry feel really sucks me in. A smaller body than Framboise de Amarosa in my opinion, a but more lively, light bodied, and quite crushable. Raspberry lemonade, lactic acid, some yogurt, big lemony and berry element, some funk and cobwebs, yogurt as we turn the corner. A touch more mellow, seedy, sour and some funk and richer lactic presence into backend and finish. More red wine, oak, gentle sweetness. Age seems not to have worn this down or made it unbearable. It’s big, brash, and for the true sourheads. But at the same time the flavors are potent, yet not overbearing for me. A touch acedic but not too much for me, well carbonated (But again, I’m amazed this didn’t gush). Really tasty. I wouldn’t call it all that complex, but the flavors are big, potent, and just damn good. This really works for me.
Dunt (321) - Illinois, USA - FEB 16, 2013Bottle opened by Matt for our Blueberry Eisbock release post-tasting. Thanks Matt! Pours a murky pink color with about a half fingers worth of off-white head. A decent amount of sediment in the glass when I hold it to the light. Nose is packed full of ripe, jammy raspberry. It reminds me of a less funky Hommage. Flavor, like the nose, is dominated by tart raspberry. There is just the smallest touch of vinegar on the end, but it is subdued in comparison to a lot of other American wilds. Light mouthfeel with moderate acidity, some spritzy carbonation, and a moderately long, tart finish. One of my favorite Veritas blends, I think I almost prefer this to V004 at this point. I don’t really get a whole lot of the cab franc grapes like in the V007, but this is tasty nonetheless.
jckp64 (356) - St Louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 15, 2013Bottle shared by Stlwill. Pours deep amber with a nice white head. Very fruity flavor with a nice sour/tart finish. Really enjoyed this beer.
jethrodium (366) - Berkeley, California, USA - JAN 18, 2013750 ml bottle generously shared by ipa247. Big thanks to Jeff for opening up this rarity. Pours a cloudy amber with almost no head. The aroma is sweet raspberry, a bit of cherry, some funky mustiness, and a hint of honey. The taste is quite tart with some sweetness. Lots of raspberries, smarties, and some cherry. The finish is tart and acidic with more raspberries and a bit of astringency. Medium body. This was very sour, but very drinkable for how sour it was. Quite nice.
kbutler1 (1383) - Colorado, USA - OCT 25, 2012UPDATED: OCT 28, 2012 Bottle. Pours a cloudy red color with a nice lively white head. The aroma is fantastic with note of raspberry, cherry, funky, vanilla, and some spice. Lemon as well. Medium/light mouthfeel with nice carbonation that makes the flavors "pop". Raspberry tartness upfront with notes of lemon, oak, and funk. Phenomenal. American sour at its best. No gusher problems as others have noted.
radagast83 (11991) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JUL 1, 2012Sampled this at a sour tasting that Tomme Arthur showed up at out of the blue at. Oh wow, even from the other room we could hear this beer *gush.* Poured a slightly cloudy orange-red color with an initial off-white head which dissipates quite quickly, leaving just a tiny wispy head. Aroma was a solid raspberry fruit note, with a sightly sweet raspberry seed aroma. Tart, but definitely not too tart. Nice cheek puckering notes.
