DocJitsu (2555) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - OCT 12, 2019UPDATED: OCT 12, 2019 Pours a very dark brown. Dark malt, fruit, dry, with a little sweetness. Pretty well-engineered beer.
sulawang (1967) - - MAY 31, 2019UPDATED: MAY 31, 2019 Bomber, bought in 2012, cellared for 7 years.
Attack: bright crisp, incoming dark malt, slightly thicker mouthfeel
Mids: cola, bitter milk chocolate, lvl-4 sweetness, hints date, coffee
Finish: deep bittersweet roast, caramelized barley malt exhale
Overall: excellent complex and rounded flavour supported with a solid crisp mouthfeel. Delicious and recommended.
Palme (5036) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 16, 2018On tap @ Henrik. Nice! This is a deep and dark one, as good as black looking really and it has a nice medium sized lacing dark ashy brown head. The nose is super roasted, more chocolate, cocoa powder and charred wood, soy sauce, licorice with both vanilla and dark creamy coffee. Damn, this smells really nice! Sure this is a lager? Even bigger and more powerful when leaving it in the glass for a while. It has a gliding oily mouthfeel with a soft only prickling carbonation level. Tasty! It's quite sweet, but definitely not cloying. Almost like drinking chocolate milk added water. Is this really a lager, and even more a schwrt!? Burned wood with chocolate, licorice, cocoa powder, milky creamy coffee, soy sauce and mocha beans. So many things going on! I would not hesitate to pick this again from the board. 01.02.1014
jrodooo5 (2712) - DOVER, Delaware, USA - OCT 14, 2017Exquisite pour w/ a flavorful punch that you won't soon forget! Pours a perfect black w/ a phenomenal mocha head & a ring of lacing. The aroma is roasted dark malt. The flavor is roasted malt, a semi sweet toffee softness, & a kick of bitterness in the finish. This has all the makings of an imperial stout w/ so much going on & the complexity works! Only 5% too? Absolutely stunning! Bravo.
Mr.Spooks (4780) - Tennessee, USA - MAR 1, 2017Solid black lager, sufficiently dark and roasty, adding a yummy charred malt complexity to its lager fruitiness. Pours a lovely deep brown with ample lace, and the aroma hits a welcome smoky mocha note. Tastes rather stout-like at first, with a massive amount of roasted chocolate blending with an apple and apricot-tinted yeasty backbone, yet it remains surprisingly light for a beer with this much dark malt character. Finishes like semisweet coffee with a breadlike undercurrent. Nice.
Nocturne (3697) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - SEP 15, 2016650ml bottle. Black with a heap of brown foam. Roasty, earthy, BBQ, espresso, dark chocolate and hoppy aroma. Similar kind of taste, quite bitter, chewy texture. Very nice.
oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 13, 2016Pours a brownish-black color. Aroma of chocolate/coffee as well as a hint of nuts? Flavor of coffee, bittersweet chocolate and bit of caramel.
waiake (606) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 16, 2016650ml bottle poured thick black & frothy not dissimilar to a half decent stout though tastes & smells nothing like a stout or a lager flavours are malty rich chocolate sugary sweet haven’t overly enjoyed previous Schwarzbiers & considering the rating of this was expecting more ok but not really my thing
chucklemation (2826) - Royal Oak, Michigan, USA - FEB 12, 2016Pours a jet black with a thick black head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, earthy hops, and some odd fruity notes. Flavor is very similar, with a sweetness that slightly outweighs the bitterness. Very good, though the fruitiness throws things off for me.
puboflyons (5027) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 18, 2016From the 650 ml. bottle. Jet black pour with lingering tan to light brown head. Big charred, burnt malt character on the nose. Smooth medium to full body. The same burnt roasted malt character is in the flavor at first but there is also an odd buttery character too, which was a tad disappointing.
