Growler: The aroma consists of chocolate, molasses, vanilla, caramel, and light apple brandy. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a minimal head. The flavor starts with chocolate, molasses, dark fruits, and faint vanilla. It finishes with maple syrup, light roasted coffee, and a hint of apple brandy. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel.
tectactoe (3125) - Michigan, USA - DEC 13, 2013UPDATED: OCT 30, 2014 Growler: Huge thanks to Jeff! Inky, oily, & black hole black... Looks like regular Zhukov except with no head - only a very mild, tan collar outlining the edge. Aroma is fantastic with sweet & warming apple brandy, fudge drizzled chocolate cake, mounds of dark currants & figs coated in brown sugar, molasses, faint vanilla. The apple brandy is so prominent, perfectly sweet, & just adds wonderful complexity to an already amazing beer. Taste is mind-blowing... notes of roasted coffee beans, rich chocolate cake, thick dark chocolate fudge, burnt & sticky toffee, wet oak, sweet prunes & currants, molasses, & a neigh perfect induction of apple brandy... Huge apple flavor that adds nice sweetness in harmony with the other flavors as well as a robust warmth all around. Lost some carbonation in the growler, but still had a nice sticky, coating mouth feel. What an excellent beer... Simply fantastic in every way.

The aroma is roasted malts, decadent chocolate, apple brandy and wood. The flavor has caramel, chocolate, roasted malts, apple brandy and wood. Oily, viscous, smooth on the palate. Extremely drinkable with all the big flavors going on.

The beer is black with a thin, oily beige head that leaves an oily residue on the glass. The aroma offers a strong brandy presence, along with oak and roast notes. Big, bold flavor. Thick body with low carbonation. Lots of brandy presence. Palate coating. Very tasty.

Treebs (872) - , Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2012his was the apple brandy barrel aged. Had on tap at DLD.
A: Pours incredibly thick and viscous. No head or lace, but it leaves massive stick and stains as I drank this.
S: Apple brandy, some oak. Unsweetened chocolate, and roasted malts.
T: The taste gets elevated to another level. Delicious milk chocolate, caramel, and the apple brandy all mix together wonderfully. There is a touch of smokey char and roasted malts on the finish.
M: Thick and viscous. Heavy bodied with some chew, the carbonation is pretty low. It just coats your entire mouth and wont go way.
O: Really, really good. I wish this was bottled. I’d trade a lot for it. I’m really glad that the barrel aging didn’t thin out the base beer because the thickness of MZ is one of the reasons why I liked it so much. Well done.
