DrnkMcDermott (4167) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - APR 8, 2023UPDATED: APR 8, 2023 2007 bottle. No idea where I got it.
But it's a good night to dig into my cellar dwellers and see how they drink.
Mindful of possible gushers, I opened it in the sink. But luckily no problems. Still some fizz under the cap. Pours a kind of iced-tea color, with some bubbles on the side and an edge of foam.
A light, fruity smell, with just a bit of tartness on the nose. Maybe some brett.
Taste is just fine. They may describe as a blend of old and new ales, but this 16-year old bottle is all old by now. Light sourness, notes of cherry and maybe tobacco leaf. Smooth and, let's call it 'drinkable,' because it is. Some burn on my tooth enamel, perhaps. Kind of wish this was a bigger bottle, but I'm glad it's just been waiting for me!
A lot of dregs in the bottom of the bottle that I swirled into the end of the glass. This gives me a bit of umami, but no dead yeast taste.

flying_pig (3066) - IRELAND - DEC 1, 2022UPDATED: DEC 1, 2022 330ml bottle from Gulden Draak Bierhaus, Porto (€5.30):
Dark cherry fed with a thin, soapy surface lacing that has a little build up stuck to the sides too & looks quite still. The nose is surprisingly light with some background malts but very little sourness other than a tiny hint of tart at the end. The taste is thankfully stronger, some nice cherry & dark berries with a little tart following on behind then a faint sweetness to close. The body is about medium & it's a very balanced, easy going beer with soft carbonation; not what I'd expected but a nice surprise bar the non-existent nose.
