COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A new Vertical Epic will be released every year, with the goal being to collect them all and have a Vertical Epic tasting once the final Epic is released on 12/12/12. Each new Stone Vertical Epic Ale will be release one YEAR, one MONTH and one DAY apart. Vertical Epic 02/02/02 was not brewed "to style". Instead, we tried to create something new. It’s triple-ish in nature, with wit character, coriander and orange peel, and has way more hops than either a Belgian triple or a Wit would. Belgian yeast was used. Belgian Strong Ale is the closest category that fits -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing CEO. In addition, we are pleased to provide the homebrewing recipe: http://stonebrew.com/timeline/020202
In 2002 we began our groundbreaking, millennium-inspired series with Stone 02.02.02 Vertical Epic Ale. This bumped up Belgian-style wit—made all the more alluring thanks to an infusion of orange peel, coriander, a sprinkling of black pepper and a healthy dose of Centennial hops—was a bright way to begin this epic eleven-part vertical tasting.

UPDATED: JUN 13, 2020 A golden hazy head with a nice head. not sure why they call this a belgian ale. Indead the first impressing is that this beer is a belgian Tripel but soon you start to discover aditional tastes, whicha ar not available in belgian beer. I had been keeping this beer from december 2016 and could not bring more as my contract in the USA suddenly was canceled. such a pity as this was a fabulous beer (bomber)

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2020 Bomber purchased at the brewery in Escondido. POURS a dark copper sunset orange hue with a thin layer of white foam. AROMA of sweet citrus, honeyed malts, earthy Belgian yeast, with hints of caramel. FLAVOR of pear, various citrus (tangerine, lemon, some lime), sweet grains, some melon, mild spice, and smooth Belgian yeastiness. Nice sweet-ish balance of flavor here with some prickly carbonation. Fairly similar to the original 02.02.02 VE, but this is notably heavier and 'thicker.' (1, 1164)

Bomber purchased at the brewery in Escondido in September 2016 and enjoyed 1.5 years later ($7.75). POURS a mostly clear golden-orange hue with two fingers of frothy white foam. AROMA of bright yeastiness, soapy hops, honey malts, with some mild citrus and spice. FLAVOR of “dry”-not-juicy citrus (lemon, lime, orange), fresh yeast, some spice, and honey cereal. Finishes with a bit of (metallic) bitterness, showing that Stone never completely abandoned hops with this their first foray into the Belgian beer world. I managed to have every single one in the VE series (including wine barrel variants) on or before 12.12.12 with the exception of this one. Glad that Stone opted to re-brew this one. Rather pedestrian by 2018 standards, but I imagine this was quite different way back in 2002. (274, 1092)

jgb9348 (9562) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - FEB 28, 2020
UPDATED: FEB 28, 2020 Quite hazy orange and yellow golden coloured body with a thinnish, pure white head that hovers in at around a single centimetre. Aroma of grass, hay, light floral and perfumey hops with a faint citrus component, and relatively balanced throughout, but more of a dry scent, especially at the end. Medium-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavours at first with a nice, but mild, alpha acid bitterness from the hops that shows nicely, but also shows off the malt and balance nicely, albeit relatively simplistically with no real complexities or depth of flavours - just a good balance on top of some fresher notes. Aftertaste shows the grainy and herbal elements towards the end with a dash of flowers and very low alpha acid hops that don't show much bitterness or character, but some light citrus notes are noticeable. Overall, a nice enough beer that shows some nice flavours, but not too strong in any regard to have enough character or depth to make this good or worthwhile in terms of spending extra money on. I sampled this 65 cL bottle, purchased at The Perfect Pour in Elkridge, Maryland on 28-November-2016 for US$8,99 sampled a thome in Manassas, Virginia on Christmas Eve 2017.

UPDATED: DEC 8, 2019 Pour is a lot more to the paler orange/yellow that I expected, and it's fairly hazy. The brilliant white and firm persistent head is lovely to look at. I don't think this is the prettiest beer that I'e ever poured.  Aroma in the glass has some peppery notes about it, and some hint of bubblegum, which again is expected.  Taste is two things, there is that familiar Belgian style yeast and sweetness. and then there is this cloud hanging over that is really quite a juxtaposition, and that's something that seems to be quite hoppy. The sleeve notes mention this though, so perhaps it's just not what I was exception, or rather was expecting but not in the way that it presented itself. I'm not so sure that I'm a fan.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2019 [email protected], Copenhagen - hazy golden orange with a white head. Medium sweet malty and fruity, some ornamge notes, bitter citrus peel, layers of herbal accents and spices throughout, yeasty linger, sweet malty support, spices sweet fruity finish.

Pinball (13783) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JUL 10, 2019
UPDATED: JUL 10, 2019 Tap at skaal tap takeover. Hazy to clear orange, small white head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, spicy notes from fermenting, some more spicy notes probably from added stuff. All ver well balanced and leaves a fresh sweet and dry impression. Really nice aroma. Flavor is belgian yeasty, pils hoppy, faint flowery and orange fruity, ends more fruity and more sweet malty. Belgian inspired big time, pleasant overall, try it if you can find it
