COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This smooth lager strikes a delicate balance between malt and hops in the aroma, palate, finish and body. It has more body and less hops than a Pilsner, and less malt and more hops than a Munich style lager. 30 IBU.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2022 On tap at Great Lakes, pours a clear dark copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out spicier herbal notes and the bready malt. Flavour is rye-like, with toasted bread crusts and light herbal notes. Earthy and spicy, with a bready finish. I don’t quite understand the sky-high ratings for this, but it’s decent.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2022 Bottle from 101 Bottles, Kent, OH. Wet grass in the aroma. Quite a butch dortmunder with a heavier bitterness than usual, pushed by higher abv. Nice drinking but surprised by top 50. (14/5/22)

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2021 Very flat boring dull flavors. I am disappointed. Great Lakes makes much better beers. Well I have had worse.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2020 Much more hoppy than most lagers. Slight malt flavor but the hops overpower this beer with bitterness. If you want this particular taste go with an IPA. Great Lakes produces many outstanding beers, this isn’t one of them.

MNAle (694) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 16, 2020
UPDATED: NOV 16, 2020 A 1+ inch slightly off-white creamy head rising above an up-rushing absolute shower of bubbles. The body is golden crystal clear. The head recedes lazily, leaving sheets of lacing. It is a great looking beer in the footed pilsner glass. Rich malty aroma, strongly bread with fruit and spice backing. Taste is bread to the fore, as promised by the aroma. Behind that is an herbal flavor, along with fruit and pepper. There is little in the way of bittering at the front, a bit sweet initially, and it remains smooth through the middle, with a tanginess from the hops showing itself. The hoppy tang dries things out a bit by the finish. The aftertaste is bready, with a nice mouth-coating feel. The finish is sufficiently dryish so as to demand the next drink. I really like the bready aftertaste. Mouth feel has a moderate body, smooth. Overall, and excellent, refreshing, and easy drinking lager with just enough complexity to keep it interesting and inviting a second round.
