Surrey's stongest beer! Deep tawny colour, complex and powerful yet well balanced with fruity notes, and hints of chocolate & raisins. A truly stunning beer. A distinctive ale from the 'Barley Wine'
Ingredients: Maris Otter pale malt, crystal malt, chocolate malt. Fuggles and Goldings hops.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2018 Bottle at home this is the 2014 version which I've just got round to opening. Also bought this the breweries shop. Pours brown with no head. Is malty with a bit of a kick at the back. Isn't bad this from someone who doesn't drink barley wines

Bottle from the brewery shop. Fruity raisens and spice aroma. Opaque treacle brown. Beige head soon fades to a few whisps. Light bitter with a sour streak. Raisens and spices come through at first but it quickly develops a boozy quinine streak. Medium bodied. Slick. Average carbonation. Long astringent finish. To be frank, it's not really ticking boxes for me. The bitter boozy steak just overpower everything. Disappoint for what is supposed to be one of the brewery"s better beers.

Bottle. BBE date Feb 2011; Drank July 2009 - Hazy Reddish-Amber in colour. Vinous. Malty; sweet toasty malts, lots of caramel, toffee. Fruity; citrus-fruit, raisins. Hoppy; earthy spicy hops. Warming alcohol. Sweet malty and fruity leading to a bitter hoppy and quite dry finish. (2009-07)

the foam a little bright bitterness and then a little sweetness, long aftertaste with bitterness, something not enough recommend

Bottle. Deep mahogany colour. Aromas (over Tongham?) of raisins, caramel and sherry. Caramel malts with more raisin and dark, dried fruit. Quite vinous. Bit of booze to it. Fairly sweet with just a hint of bitterness in the finish.

Clear deep dark brown chestnut color with small oak colored foam. Aromas really remind me of mead! Bit boozy, fruity and honey and has this manily malty base I guess but really does remind of mead. Palate, full body, very thick, heavy and mouth coating texture, leaves boozy, fruity and aged finish. Taste is on the boozy side, quite strong, has hints of dried fruit, aged beer, and sure is quite potent. Overall, quite nice beer, very thick and heavy and strong! Would definatly recomend to try.
