UPDATED: NOV 20, 2020 (Bottle) Black colour with almost no head. Malty, roasted nose with liquorice, black rye bread, soy sauce, caramel, cacao, sweet espresso and hints of tar and asphalt. Malty, roasted taste with notes of liquorice, soy sauce, black rye bread, treacle, cacao, roasted oats, sweet espresso and a balanced roasty bitterness in a finish with a warming alcohol touch. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Clean and quite well balanced for its strength, with lots of liquorice. Very nice. OminouSC2 (3181) - Mora, SWEDEN - AUG 17, 2019

This lingering bottle in the cellar might be past its prime but still packs a punch. If you enjoy anise infused beers rich and don't mind the ghosts of oxidation then crack open an old bottle.
AROMA / APPEARANCE
Licorice, sweet coffee, and old malts cling to the air tenaciously as the rich aroma builds. A fluid black base chews at the minimal head until it disappears completely.
FLAVOR / PALATE
Anise overpowers everything for a few seconds before the resin and cold coffee manage to make an appearance on the tongue. The long finish returns the focus to licorice with a full bodied sticky profile. This may have been best a few years ago but it is doing its best to still be memorable. Bottle: Poured a Black with tan head. Aroma is toasty roasted malts. Taste is roasty chocolate coffee. GregMooreNH (7097) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 24, 2017
Underwhelming aroma, with just a hint of licorice, leads to a powerful taste of cloves and sweetness. Has just a hint of the booziness that lurks beneath. This is a great beer when you have a good 3-4 hours to drink one beer, or have beer connoisseurs at home. ctipping (3979) - Florida, USA - JUL 20, 2017
750 mL bottle. Jet black. Old bottle. Smells a little oxidized. Smells of strong roasted malt and oak. Tastes of chocolate, oak, and roasted malt. Pretty alcoholic. Heavy, but not that sweet. Very good, perhaps even improved with the slight oxidation. kevinator (6190) - The Colony, Texas, USA - MAR 5, 2017
Awesome. Bold roasty aromas with sweet bitterness and hints of oak. Chocolate and rich. Very dark and full. jandd1983 (7014) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - JAN 1, 2017
Bottle. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of bourbon, coffee and some wood. The taste was similar to the aroma with more bourbon, coffee, licorice, chocolate and a real nice boozy finish. This was tasty.
