Roast aroma. Dark coloured smooth on the palate and hoppy with a citrus flavour. A hint of dryness in a roast finish.
nuplastikk (9837) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 27, 2010Draft at FFF. Served in a short Stein Glass. Roasty chocolate-coffee aroma. Black-brown with a steady beige head. Rich, medium bodied. An excellent Schwarzbier, perfectly balance between the rich malty chocolate tones and the faint peppery hop bitterness. Perfectly sessionable, a touch hoppier than a typical European example. Awesome.
nickd717 (10342) - San Francisco, California, USA - NOV 12, 2010GABF 2010. Pours from the tap a dark brown color with a one-finger light tan head. The aroma is roasty and earthy with some sweet caramel. The flavor has somewhat sweet caramel malt, roasted malts, slight coffee and earthy hop bitterness. Medium-bodied with a nice smooth mouthfeel and a good carbonation level. A solid offering from the Floyds.
Ceebs25 (503) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - NOV 6, 2010On tap at the brewpub in Munster. This is really how i imagine a good schwarzbier to be. It came poured with a nice creamy ring of head, and an opaque yet still lighter looking black body. Some toasted bread and roasted malts, nuts, and caramels in the slightly hazy feeling nose. Fresh and soft carbonation on the well-balanced and nice lager body. Notes of black roasted/toasted malts, nuts, caramels, and background hop presence (maybe herbal and earth). Great drinkability. This was nice.
swoopjones (7018) - Buffalo, New York, USA - OCT 25, 2010GABF 2010. Very good schwarzbier. chestnut brown pour. roasted malts & coffee dominate here in both flavor & aroma. Nice medium mouthfeel. Job well done
potbeerjob (1343) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 17, 2010GABF. Dark brown with white head. Aroma is roasted dark grains, light brown sugar. Taste is kinda bland, light roasted and light hops. Not as flavorful as most schwarzbiers.
SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - SEP 27, 2010Draught at Local Option. I’m glad this lasted til the weekend because I missed out on it when they put in on at the 3F night last tuesday... Dark brown with a black/red thing going on. Malty, toasty aroma with light chocolate. Nice chocolate flavors and light spicy hops. Toasty and malty and never gets too roasty, just smooth rich chocolate. Medium-light body with smooth carbonation. My third lager form these guys in a week, and another solid one.
drewbeerme (3921) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 25, 2010Draft at fountainhead, pours brown-black with small off white head. Pleasant aroma of toasty and roasty spent grains, floral hop notes, clean authentic lager yeast quality too. Flavors balance everything into one of the most enjoyable schwarz I’ve had in a while (maybe ever), toasted grains that never fall heavy on roast, grassy hop bitterness, clean lager yeast finish. Im surprised that nothing is overdone with this, FFF nailed it.
wedgie9 (2703) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 21, 2010Tasted on draft at Local Option. Pours black with a thick off-white head that displays great retention. The nose is earthy roasted malt with a hint of aromatic hops. The flavor is roasted malt with some earthiness and light hops. The body is light with lively carbonation and a long roasted finish.
