Idiosynkrasie (12853) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - MAR 17, 2021
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2021 330ml bottle. Opaque, darkest brwon colour with small to average, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige head. Roasty, spicy, dark malty and peaty, smoky, aroma, notes of coffee, peat, leather, some dark caramel, toffee, a touch of butterscotch, cinnamon overtones, clove as well; the peaty notes turn out to be rather ephemeral, the cinnamon spiciness takes over. Taste is sweet-ish, caramel malty, slightly dry, roasty dark malty, peaty, notes of dark caramel with a touch of vanilla, a touch of burnt caramel, hints of peat, leather, some coffee, dark chocolate, some alcohol, a touch of toffee and butterscotch; later additionally slightly spicy, hints of cinnamon, a touch of clove; warming, minimally pungent, alcoholic finish. Viscous texture, smooth and soft, slightly cloying, simultaneously minimally pungent palate, fine, soft to flat carbonation. Wonderful, rich and complex, evolving in the nose, a tad unbalanced and harsh in taste, especially due to the alcohol that becomes increasingly noticeable - very good!

Alengrin (9075) - BELGIUM - JUL 25, 2020
UPDATED: JUL 25, 2020 Norwegian imperial porter aged in bourbon barrels, with medium thick, pale greyish beige, stable head lacing in shreds over a very dark chestnut brown beer with mahogany edges. Aroma of hard caramel, brown rum, walnut liqueur, hazelnut oil, toffee, cinnamon, 'fondant' chocolate, cold cappuccino, amaretto and indeed bourbon, vanilla-scenting oak wood. Sweet onset, candied dates and figs, yellow raisins, soft carb; full, oily body, 'deep' hazelnutty and toffeeish malt layers with a chocolatey edge and a toasted-bitterish tail but indeed not to the extent that it shouts 'stout' - adorned with lovely, elegant woodiness (vanilla retronasally but soft in tannins), a herbal and deeply buried hop bitter element and aspects of bay leaf and pistachio, warmed by sweet and boozy, but nowhere harsh bourbon. Rich and deep, a tad too sticky-sweet perhaps but complex and delicious, delivering what it promises. Great one.

olberic (481) - - JUL 16, 2020
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2020 Aroma of strong cocoa, coffee, raisins, vanilla, barley and dates Very black colour with foam on the edges Intense taste of cocoa nibs with bourbon whisky, coffee, dates, vanilla, and roasted barley. Marvelous Medium high carbonation with smooth mouthfeel I can see why this is in the top 50 imperial Porters
