2013 on draught at kona - pours pitch black with medium tan head, foamy on edges. Nose of bourbon, coconut, and vanilla. Taste is a pleasant balance of bourbon, vanilla, coconut, malt. Has a surprising citrus finish.

On draught at Kona Brewing. 2013 vintage. Pitch black with creamy tan head. Aroma is roasted dark chocolate, bourbon, and black cherry. Taste is dark chocolate, light smoke, roasted dark malt, coffee, bourbon, and a hint of the black cherry. Pour at brewery. Pour is deep clear brown with a small tan head. Aroma is lightly roasted malt, light vanilla, light brown sugar, and a light spiciness. Flavor is very mellow and well balanced with obvious porter characteristics up front including roasted malt and light hop. Then a very well balanced bourbon component rolls in with notes of vanilla, wood, and straight bourbon flavor but without being hot at all. Really pretty darn good. Tap at the brewery. Pours inky black with tan head. Aroma is pure bourbon. Taste brings more bourbon and not much else. Really thin on the palate. Tasted on draft at FoBAB. Pours an almost black amber with an average off-white head. The nose is molasses, super roasty, with the oak and bourbon taking a back seat. The flavor is roasted malt with vanilla, coconut, oak, and whiskey. Once again, though, the whiskey and oak act as more of a backbone than the main attraction. The body is medium plus with average carbonation and a long roasted malt and whiskey finish.

UPDATED: DEC 17, 2010 2009 vintage on draught at the brewpub in Kailua. This brew pours inky black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Oaky bourbon aroma with malt and dark fruit notes. Rich body with a substantive bourbon character and flavors of dark fruit, caramel malt, oak and vanilla. FoBAB 2010: Near opaque with some mahogany highlights topped by an outstanding lasting frothy beige head and excellent lace. The aroma has notes of macadamia nuts, coffee, chocolate, plum, prune, charred smoke, earthy tobacco, grassy hops, and light bourbon vapours. The taste has outstanding balance between sweet and nutty malts, dark fruits, liquorice, smoke, bourbon and finishing hop bitterness. The mouth feel is smooth and lush. Brown pour with hints of red, creamy tan head and lace. Bourbon, coffee, and abv on the nose. Bourbon, coffee, vanilla, and a hint of abv. Medium bodied with nitro carbonation make it smooth and very tasty.
