June 2017 - Bottle share at 1 Canada Square. Big thanks to Paul. As ’Akashi-Tai Honjozo Genshu’, 19%. Looks like water, no head. Aroma has marzipan, light refined sugars, parafin and a little parma violet. Body is smooth and oily. Taste is again light refined sugars, mostly parafin and booze, spicy and boozy with a little lavender. I couldn’t drink a lot of this. My first genshu sake though! Cheers Scopey. (5-3-4-3-10=2.5)

Bottle shared on Level 42 14/06/2017. Many thanks to Scopey for this one. A clear water with a light yellow hue, no head. Aroma is hot alcohol, paint stripper, grape, rustic Moonshine. Flavour is composed of plum fruit, hot alcohol, grape, solvent, little bitty. Palate is semi sweet, spicy alcohol, no carbonation. . Hides the alcohol quite well. Fun to try but i can’t get on with sake in general.

Bottle split at L42, thanks to Paulo, 14/06/17. Clear pale as yellow with a minimal head that soon thins to nyadda. Nose is light spice, boozey, pickled ginger, grains. Taste comprises sweet licks, candy, booze, grains, melon balls, lychee, gin tickle. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with a big boost. Ok if a touch raw.

Bottle shared at L42. Thanks to Scopey for this one. Pours clear with a yellow tinge. Aroma is sweaty feet, cheese and a little rice. Taste is boozy, a little rice and a cheesy aftertaste. Not my favourite Sake

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Scopey. Pours totally clear, like water. Nice polished white rice in the aroma, some vanilla, meringue, sponge cake. Medium sweet flavour with light floral notes, moderate alcohol, more white rice, soft vanilla. Full bodied, lightly oily and chewy. Warming finish, with a little heat in the aftertaste, nice vanilla frosting character. Really enjoyable.

Bottle purchased on the interweb. It pours clear with a yellow tinge. The aroma is cracker, rivita, cereal, earth, touch of barnyard, lychee, umami and wet rice. The taste is bitter - sweet, hit of raw alcohol upfront, lychee, melon, greengage, earthy, damp hay, tannin and wood with a drying and slightly hot finish. Medium body and oily mouth - feel. Does actually have quite a lot going on, but the alcohol is too big a part of the overall experience. Interesting stuff.

Bottle from Rehills of Jesmond. Almost clear with a yellow tinge. Flavours of lychee and booze. Creamy mouthfeel. OK.
