COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
E. is for Edward (1917-2002), my grandfather, as well as the name of the first beer that I brewed in my brewery on March 30, 2010. E. is for Easter; brewing in Denmark revealed a European tradition of crafting Easter (Påske) beer. Thus, in honor of E., to the past and future emprises here on Hill Road, a special first anniversary release. Edward fermented with yeasts of Belgian origin, tank conditioned over four months, dry hopped with Galaxy hops, and bottle conditioned. E is for Entelechy, the continued actualization of our potential through spirited effort and vision.

13ºP 6.2% abv. Pale and Caramel Malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, Warrior, and Galaxy Hops; Saison and Brettanomyces Yeast, and our Well Water.

Released usually every year. No 2013 version released. Last batch released March of 2016.

4/2/2013 750ml bottle poured into a Gandhi Bot snifter. A~ hazy golden copper with crazy huge head and lots of lacing. S~ peppery, citrus, and lots of bready yeast. just like a great saison should smell! T~ more hop bitterness up front then i was expecting, definitely a nice treat. followed by a lot of lemon/lime citrus, a tad orange. nice pepper and tartness on the finish. mmm..! M~ very carbonated but not overly so. you can kind of feel the bitterness from the hops if that makes sense lol O~ definitely different then most HF saisons i’ve had but i’m gonna blame that on the hops! in a good way of course =] i love how HF saisons get sour with a little age, this one especially!

750ml bottle (thx, Reginald D.!) shared with Jamey W. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is funky, fruity and woody, very sophisticated. Taste is similar with lots of funk and barrel notes. Fruity, funky and hoppy aftertaste. Good stuff, as usual :-)

Bottle @ Warpigs - HF tap takeover, 2016. Clear medium yellow body with a small white head. Citrus, lemon, yeast, funk, tart, brett, hops, malt. Good.

Une bière blonde, avec une bonne effervescence, et un gros doigt de carbonatation. Au nez, levure sauvages à la HF d’attaque avec un petit côté sucré et mielleux intéressant. Au goût, la levure avec une certaine influence de levures belges est bien présentes. Il y a un certain manque d’effervescence en bouche, qui laisse le gout sucré des bretts prendre l’ascendant. C’est toutefois bien équilibré, avec le côté belge assez présent, les levures sauvages, et un aspect sucré. Une fois la bière un peu plus réchauffée, on trouve des notes de mangues bien fruitées. Néanmoins, de passer de la Edward à ça m’impressionne parce que ce sont des bières complètement différente, mais efficace.

750mL bottle. Pours amberish gold with a medium off-white head. Aroma is funk, citrus, grass, white grapes, earth, hay, and oak. Taste is barnyard, funk, earth, grapefruit, lemon, grass, apricot, some tangerine, and a little oakiness. Some pepper in the finish. Some light acidic tartness with a little lingering bitterness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Crisp-ish mouthfeel; yeast sediment makes it a bit slicker. As it warms the fruit brightens and the barnyard diminishes, simplifying the taste to big apricot and tangerine up front with an earthy finish. The beer feels like a combination of Edward and Dorothy (especially in the aroma), although the palate isn’t quite as strong as either of those beers.

750ml 2014 bottling of E. Hasn’t dried out as much as expected after all this time, and the funk level is moderate. Not a brett bomb by any means. Hop punch from release is obviously gone, now has a more rounded earthy orange character with some stonefruit and Belgian yeast spice in the finish. Also some touches of light sweet bready grain and honey notes. The fading of the hops revealed much more of a Belgian charactee than expected. Pretty balanced out right now in the profile. I preferred the somewhat dreggy pours from the second half of the bottle. Very enjoyable, but this is definitey one to drink now if you’ve still got it.

750 ml bottle thanks to Mike! Hazy golden to orange color with off white head. Hoppy, yeasty and light malty aroma, floral, light citrusy fruity, light funky, cheesy, light vinous, wood. Sweet, light bitter and light acidic taste. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity with sweet notes of pineapple and peaches, bright lemon, passionfruit and orange, some funky barnyard and hay notes, light grain and herbal peppery notes. Taste is very light sweet, tart, fruity and funky. Light to medium bodied, average carbonation, slightly dry. Finish is slightly dry, some grassy and herbal bitter notes, lemon and passionfruit, some funky barnyard notes and light fruity and malty sweetness.
