On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood. Pours dark brown/black with a red tint. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, wood, some booze, and dark fruits. Flavour is the same plus candy apple. Full bodied and really nice.

Nice woody nose, oak, roast, dark bitter chocolate, a touch of barrel. Not as bourbony as everything else sampled. A little tannic wood notes. Pours black, thin tan head. The flavor is nice and roasty with a good dryness and bitterness, dark bitter chocolate, earthy notes and woody bourbon compliment underneath and throughout. Definitely the tamest beer sampled but well balanced and well put together. Good stuff.

UPDATED: DEC 12, 2011 Tap @ Brouwer’s. Deep brown pour with a short beige head leaving heavy lace. Nose is booze, licorice and cinnamon. Heavy body and light carbonation, with a fading of the body towards the finish. Bourbon, plums, licorice, vanilla, molasses and cinnamon. Finish is moderately long, sweet and spicy. There is a late roasty bitternes with some wood and charcoal.

On tap at Brouwer’s for Big Wood, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of vanilla upfront, bourbon, light molasses and wood. Flavour of dark roasted malt, vanilla, coffee and light wood barrels. Full-bodied and complex. Delicious.

Draft. Black beer with a tan head. Big bourbon aroma with malt. Bourbon and malt flavor with light vanilla and chocolate. Medium bodied. Bourbon and malt lingers with light vanilla and light chocolate.

Appearance: Pours a viscous dark brown with no head.

Aroma: Light banana, caramel with chocolate and fresh oak.

Taste: Dark choc dark fruit caramel burnt roast, rounds out with a kiss of booze and barrel, with lots of vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, silky smooth with perfect carbonation.

Overall: A very decadent Imperial Stout. Not particularly heavy on the bourbon or wood, the base beer is at the forefront, and that’s fine by me in this case.

Off a tap @ Woodshop Classix The beer is pretty much melted chocolate in a glass. Smells of a lot of uncooled fudge, bourbon brownie, and some almost menthol alcohol. Taste was a bit hot, but not overwhelming. Great milk chocolate flavor that wears the bourbon barrel like a garnish of chocolate shavings. A very chocolate coulis-like taste. Simply a good BA stout, but nothing too distinctive about this one. Worth a try.

On tap at Oakquinox. Not sure where my ratings disappeared to (its checked off as if I uploaded it from my notebook). Pours with a black body and a tan head with great retention. Aromas are fruity, estery, chocolate, coconut, toasted oak, barrel, and vanilla. Fudge. Flavors are smooth: chocolate, cocoa, coconut, fudge. Medium sweet finish. Medium bubbles. Estery, smooth, fruit and only mildly warming. One of my favorites of the day.

Draft at the brew pub. Dark brown pour, not quite black, with a short tan head. Mostly bourbon, oak, and chocolate, with a bit of roasted malt, vanilla, and licorice. Medium-heavy mouthfeel. Much better then the regular KGB, but not exceptional.

A: The pour is almost black with a finger of tan head sitting on top. S: Still quite roasty with lots of bourbon and oak aromas, and some licorice, coming into play. Fairly strong on the licorice notes and a bit of molasses and dark toffee providing sweetness. T: Heavier on the bourbon flavor with a subtle vanilla flavor. Decently oaky with some roasted malt and ash. Molasses, licorice, and toffee lend a slight sugary quality. M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: Significantly better than the regular version I tried previously, but not great by any means.
