hopdog (13191) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 10, 2017
Bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Roast, citrus, and some earth. Bulk_Carrier (6064) - Vermont, USA - MAY 12, 2017
Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a black color with a finger’s worth of an eggshell foamy white head. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some roasted malts, light floral hop tones, light orange peel, light coffee beans and ended with a touch of dark chocolate.
The flavor was somewhat roasty with that floral quality sweetness. Some bitterness from the orange peel but really not that noticeable. Aftertaste was mainly the roasted malts and dark chocolate. Finished with the same but brought in a touch of that orange peel bitterness.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Mild carbonation and the ABV felt appropriate.
Overall, as a black IPA, well, it somewhat works, but as I normally associate the style with "palate wrecking" capabilities, I didn’t really see that with this one. Maybe again. EHSRanders (2102) - Tjele, DENMARK - MAY 5, 2016

Bottle. Jet black in colour, with a frothy, beige, head. Marmite, fruit cake notes, orange peel, a touch of grassy hop and dryish finish. A bit too yeasty, but good overall. MadIndian (2743) - Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2015

This pours black with a thick tan head. Nice malty aromas of sweet chocolate, coffee, and hops is reminiscent of a stout. I can taste a mild malt backbone that starts surprisingly clean and drinkable before a harsh, moderately bitter hop finish that lingers extensively with an aspirin-like bitterness. Malt character when detectible is very mild chocolate and coffee. The malt profile is nicely subdued as it should be in this style, but the hop flavors need to shine and in this case are a bit one-dimensional.
