COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional dark northern ale has been brewed especially for the Wetherspoon Autumn 2011 real-ale festival. A lightly hopped and full-bodied beer, it has sweet blackcurrant flavours and a dryness from the roasted barley, leaving a lingering, creamy and smooth finish on the palate Hops: Goldings, Willamette

Cask at The Market Tavern, Durham, £3.55/pint. Very dark brown beer with a smooth, creamy, off-white head. The nose is muted but comes across sweetish with some biscuit and bready malt character. The taste too is all malt, biscuity, rounded and comforting. A good beer for a cold January evening.

Cask ale, half pint at the Winter Ales Festival at the New Oxford pub in Salford. Mahogany coloured body with a deep ruby shade. Lacing rings down the glassware. Inviting aroma of earthy malts added by liquorice. The taste profile is a nice mix of dark fruits, aniseed and mid-sweet, dark chocolate malt. Dry fruity ending. Soft in the mouth. Pleasant (Greater Manchester, 27.01.2013).
