COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The brewer allow the beer to macerate with fresh cherries, raspberries and cranberries. After this maceration in oak, the beer re-ferments in the bottle. The result is RODENBACH Caractère Rouge, an exceptional RODENBACH with fruit maceration and a 7% alcohol volume. The brew is more than unique and extremely exclusive, as only 900 75-cl bottles were produced. Geunes serves this wilful beer as part of his other unique range of beer varieties in his restaurant, ’t Zilte, at the Antwerp MAS museum.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2018 Tap at 6dN Aberdeen. Nose is full of fruit tannins, sweet vinegar and a woodiness like bark chippings. Pours a hazy raspberry red with a thin, white lacing round glass. Taste has cherry sherbet, tart red berry and a lemony finish. Feels soft, full bodied with a tight, bubbly sparkling fizz. A bright, tart and refreshing sour.

On tap at Brewdog Oxford. Pours a hazy cherry red with a thin pink head. Aroma: cherries, cranberries, mild raspberries, grass, mild lemon peel notes. Taste: cherries, cranberries and raspberries dominate the flavour balance. Mild lemon, red liquorice, sour candy flavours. Very mild watermelon flavours. Complex and delicious flavour balance. Moderate sweetness, followed quickly on the palate by a moderate to high tartness that dominates the palate. Resinous and slick texture. Moderate carbonation. This was very tasty. Would happily have this whenever I see it on tap or bottled.

Pours a clear rusty red with a thin pinkish head. Bold aroma of tart raspberries. Taste is big on tart raspberries and sour cherries. I didn't taste much of the cranberries. Nice mouth feel with a lasting tingle on the roof of the mouth and a slight pucker. Finishes smooth with a lot of residual tart fruit and some woody notes in the aftertaste. Stands up to all the hype. Very enjoyable.
