COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark Helmet is a German-style black lager (or Schwarzbier) brewed with 10% malted rye. Chocolate and Carafa malts give this beer its dark color and ludicrously smooth, roasty flavor. May the Schwarz be with you!

UPDATED: NOV 16, 2019 The Aromas are dark malt and roast. Flavors are like Nose with a nice balance between sweet, tart, and bitter. Good body with slightly strong carbonation and decent finish. Nothing unusual but not too bad either.

UPDATED: SEP 14, 2019 Dark lager that’s a little bitter at the end but very smooth. Coffee and chocolate flavors here. Like the Swartzbiers.

UPDATED: JAN 24, 2019 Quite solid, totally to style, and I don't recall alot of non Germans I like in this great style. A bit of smoke, dry, roasty, clean, a bit burnt, plenty of body. Will look for it again.

16 ounce can from a trade with bacchus66. Thanks! The beer is a dark brown with a lasting head of beige foam. Toasty and earthy aroma. Some vanilla sweetness comes across in the taste. Notes of dark chocolate and cream in the taste. Sweet overall. Medium body and medium carbonation.

Pint can, Sam's Quik Shop. Pours dark brown with a frothy beige head, lots of lacing. Aroma is cocoa, coffee, toasted caramel malt. Flavor is cocoa, chocolate, roasted malt, ash, earth, rye bread.

Pint canned 02/19/2018. Pours schwarz mit einem ring aus blasen. Nose is chocolate, bread, caramel and a touch of espresso. Complex flavors of bread, chocolate, rye, caramel, toasted nut, soy, char and a hint at blackberry. Medium bodied with annoyingly explosive fizz but a nice balance.

16 ounce can. Dark brown color with a slight reddish hue. Rocky tan head is voluminous initially, then it disappates quickly. Roasted malt nose has hints of chocolate and brown sugar. Flavor is roasted malt and chocolate. A bit thin in body. Decent flavor with a touch of metallic notes in finish.

The aroma is a moderate roasted chocolate malt. The body is black but has faint reddish hue held to the light. The head is a distinct tan that starts strong and then falls reluctantly to thin blanket. The taste is a smooth and clean roasted malt. It has a hint of dry chocolate. Only a modest amount of bitterness. Crisp, smooth and drinkable. I was skeptical of this style from past experience but this one brought me back.

Pour is a near enough black with a large fluffy tan head. Aroma is a real nice roasted charred malt with some anise and chocolate. Flavor is more charred malt and super dry finish. I also get a bit of campfire smokiness but it is minor. This is definitely a American take on a schwarzbier. A nice roasty malt almost boarding on porter/stout territory.
