Inspired by our bohemian Sparta Pils and Pils 15, here is the third of our pils series. Imperial Pilsner brewed using only bohemian floor malted barley and a bit of candi sugar. Hopped to 60 IBU’s with Magnum and Sterling hops. Dry-hopped with german Saphir.

In short: Sugary pale malts and a ton of dry grassy Saaz. A true bohemian pils on steroids. I like
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy yellow-blond body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose is somewhat timid with grassy hops, some countryside flowers and fresh hay. Taste is something else, they beer may not be very aromatic but it sure is very tasty. Plenty of crunchy sugary cereals (like a feuilleté pastry, baklavaish) followed by an avalanche of dry grassy Saaz hops with a light spicy twist. One of biggest Saaz-fix I’ve ever experienced in my life. Sugars and dry bitterness are nose-to-nose in the finish, this is a well balanced beer. Long finish leaving a taste of sticky dead flowers and sweet pastry. Cheval Blanc is still the cheapest craftbeer in town and the beer is pretty good, two good reasons to go there, like going to Wal-Mart for the low prices and the self-esteem boost.

A golden pils with a thin off white head. In aroma, a smooth crisp biscuit with smooth German hops, grassy and nice. In mouth, a nice crisp malt with smooth herbal hops, grassy, lightly piney, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Mondiale 2012 , June 10 2012.

Rich saaz aroma, lots of pale malt. Hazy blonde. Bitter, with some pale malt and light doughiness. OK mocne-ish brew.

On tap
Aroma malty , grainy noted with alcohol. Fruity hints behind. Peppery top. Good but not very ESL like.
Appearance slight haze on gold with medium plus white top. Some lace on glass wall. 3+
Flavor and Palate : Bitter, raw feel/ leafy bitterness with bit strange aftertaste. Lacking clean cut feel of lager. Not very refreshing.

On tap at the brewpub. Quite a sweet malty aroma. The malts have really been pushed on this one. The candi sugar also is very present. The hops have taken a back seat, and seem to only be contributing some bitterness. A little too viscous, not one lf my favorites.

Beershine (5257) - VANCOUVER, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 5, 2012
Draft at brewpub. Golden with slight haze, with nice natural head. Aroma of strong, clean, healthy pale malts. A masculine aroma. The alcohol is hidden well but feels high gravity. Very dry. It is great, with no flaws. Part of me wishes this were not imperialized. Half the strength and the character would shine more. The hops and malts are clean but obscured by the strength. Its really good tho. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
