Draught at Wig & Pen, Canberra. Pours pale yellow with a small white head. Pale malt, citrus, peach. Clean, crisp mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A well made Kolsch.

First one tried on tap at the Wig and Pen and it was quite good, off to a good start, pale yellow coloured body with minimal head, faint aroma of fruit which presented itself more in the taste, almost medium body, some pear notes and a bit zesty.

MBison (548) - Southern Highlands, AUSTRALIA - DEC 23, 2007
Draught at the brew house. Arrived looking actually quite similar to the “Kiandra Gold”, a light goldeny, with yellow highlights and a small white head which was fully diminishing. Aroma was of faint straw, light musky malt, banana and very light notes of bubblegum, vanilla and cloves in the back. Again like the Kiandra taste was similar to smell, light bananaish bitterness, vanilla in the back and some wheat to throw in the mix. Body was light to medium with a short, clean finish. Not overly impressed, I bad batch perhaps?

On tap. First Kölsch I’m aware of having tasted, and makes me think that I should perhaps have bothered stopping in Koln after all on one of my trips through Germany. Very unique type of lager, with a lovely balance in its crisp hoppiness, with a really lovely floral aroma anda sweet firm flavour. Suitably fizzy.

A truly great lager, with a pronounced but well balanced German-style bitterness matched with a clean sweetness in the body. Perfectly drinkable.

Quite tasty relaly. Very clear and light but still with plenty of bite. Easy drinking means that an afternoon spent drinking a few of these goes by very quickly.

vanvenlo (2497) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - MAY 27, 2006
28 Mar 2006 - Sweet biscuit malt and light hop aroma. Clear very light yellow colour, reasonable head and lacing. Sweet big hoppy flavour but simple. Hoppy sweet bitter aftertaste.

Not as good as I expected to be, but still a decent beer. Some grassy hops, but generally a weak aroma, probably due in part to the serving temperature being pretty low. I’ll certainly give this another go the next chance I get, providing I’ve tasted all the other W&P beers!

Not much aroma only a slight hint of hops. Clear amber colour with good head and lacing. Bitter hop malt flavour with sweet candy finish. Fizzy palate.

omhper (36926) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - FEB 7, 2006
Draught at the brewpub. Clear pale golden. Grassy aroma. Dry, yet fruity with rounded mouthfeel. There’s some gentle, bready malt character and a decent amount of hops. Not the sort of fake kölsch you see many brewpubs try to push to yellow beer drinkers, but instead a very drinkable, well made beer.
