BlackHaddock (9712) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 13, 2012
Flip-top 65cl brown bottle, picked up during a beer raid into Europe at a Channel port booze warehouse (Pidou in Dunkirk actually, don’t you know?). Best before Aug 2009, drank Aug 2008. Poured most into a Duvel glass and the rest (for the wife) into a Veltins Pilsner stemmed tulip glass. Looked good in both glasses, large white head, which stayed for a while before fading to a clingy covering until the end. Mid amber body with good carbonisation rising through the beer. Yeast, straw and hops vie for a place in the aroma, none of them winning, so a mixed bag for a smell. Very dry and bitter taste, not what I was expecting at all. I had been cutting logs and generally getting sweaty before I had this and wanted something refreshing, wrong choice. Not sure what to add, without slanging it off, which would be a bit unfair. Strange beer, looks good and is well packaged. It just doesn’t deliver what it appears to promise. Nothing wrong with it, but it didn’t Rock my Boat.

500ml bottle I drank probably 5 or 6 years ago, I got it from the ANBL location in Fredericton. A little sad to see they went out of business, but given the $5/bottle price tag and the poor reviews on here it’s not shocking. Despite the negativity here, I rather liked this beer, although it seemed rather odd for a blonde. The colour was a fair bit darker than I’d have expected and it had a bit of a hops and alcohol bite to it.

Canned. Golden colour, minimal head. Aroma of corn and alcohol. Sweet, boring and only just drinkable.

Weak malt aroma, rubbery hops, straw. White foamy lacing head over yellow clear liquid. Med-hi card & watery body. Weak malt & hops. Stale watery corn & industrial bitter with astringent after. Alcohol.
