COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Gingerbread Stout Aged in Virginia Bourbon Barrels Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, described by BeerAdvocate as “freagin’ Christmas in a bottle,” is an imperial milk stout brewed with vanilla beans, cinnamon, fresh Casselmonte Farm baby ginger and Bearer Farms wildflower honey. Gingerbread Stout is then matured in Virginia bourbon barrels, where it adapts an incredibly mellow character with oak, caramel and bourbon undertones, and emerges 12 weeks later as Bourbon GBS. A festive blend of spice character laces this rich, chocolatey stout, which warms the palate and the soul. 2017 edition: 10.6%

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2020 Picked this up for the holidays, but didn't get to open it until around Feb. 2020. Not a huge gingerbread fan. Was the season and been wanting to try some of their other barrel aged stuff...so got sold. Not overwhelmingly sweet, yet strong up front bourbon flavor. Wanted to actually age it about a year or so, but was told to drink this soon. I guess something to do with the spices not lasting that long. A well-balanced heavy beer.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2020 1/18/20 - Tallahassee, Fl - Trader Joe's - 750 ml cage corked bottle. Very dark brown fading to black oily pour, wispy mocha colored head clings to the edge of the glass. Very aromatic, some gingerbread, chocolate and bourbon. Full-bodied bold flavor, rich chocolate, pronounced gingerbread notes without being cloying. Bourbon background provides a pleasant ending without being distracting. Sticky, thick richh mouthfeel.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2019 Cork and caged 750ml bottle, shared with my son and son-in-law on 23rd Dec 2019. Black bodied, slick and oily, tanned head. The list on the label tells the truth! It has a taste and aroma that has Gingerbread, honey, bourbon, vanilla and cinnamon. My sweet tooth really took to it. Most likely too sweet for some.

tightslice (2239) - San Jose, California, USA - DEC 11, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2019 Bottle from Trader Joe’s in Campbell, CA. Aroma is gingerbread cookie, cinnamon, nutmeg, molasses. Taste is gingerbread spices, molasses, starchy cookie, creamy vanilla. Arming alcohol on the finish. Wow! Thought this would be a complete gimmick / novelty beer...actually quite good and drinkable (despite being a rich dessert beer).

Thisis12ptfont (1858) - Los Angeles, CA, California, USA - DEC 9, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2019 Aromas of chocolate, cookie dough, bread dough, fudge, oak tree bark, bourbon, alcohol sting, fresh ginger, aged wort syrup, barrel wood, cinnamon, vanilla and malted barley. Taste is oak, charcoal, barrel wood, bourbon, malted barley, burnt alcohol sugars, rubbing alcohol, chocolate, cocoa nibs, tree bark, campfire ash, graham crackers, raisins, figs, prune juice, plums, licorice, star anise, cinnamon and vanilla. Overall, really nice. Just like the regular version but amped up in flavor and a fantastic barrel quality.

JDBaker11058 (3285) - Sandy Spring, Maryland, USA - DEC 8, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 8, 2019 Even better than the original version, if that can be believed. Adds notes of caramel and vanilla, still nicely balanced by the ginger and spice. Eminently drinkable.

Aurelius (6464) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 4, 2019
UPDATED: DEC 4, 2019 Belgian-style bomber, OK label. Deep brown-black pour with a medium tan head - has a nice cascade in a big pilzglas. Doughy, cake batter aroma with a whiff of whiskey, cocoa, pecan and Play-Doh. Strictly speaking, the aroma wasn't right in the sweet spot, but it's different and appealing. Sugary sweet, more cake/brownie batter, pecans a little whiskey. Viscous, mouthy, starchy. The spice is subdued, but there's a cinnamon note kicking around in the aroma and flavor. Warming - the ABV is well-masked in the sweetness and body. Don't try to kill a bottle of this by yourself - it's a slow-sip, sharing beer. There were some spots where this wasn't as deft as it could be, but overall, it's a winter warmer. Trader Joe's, Tallahassee.

Trolleo (5456) - Manchester, Greater Manchester, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2019
UPDATED: NOV 27, 2019 Nice mixture of bourbon, cinnamon and gingerbread, modest body for high ABV, sweet and spicy taste, more cinamon and gingerbread.
