COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Name Origin: On the West Coast, surfers have a term for that perfect time of day, when the waves are breaking just right and it feels like you can ride forever. They call it Alchemy Hour. In Cleveland, our surfers have to work a little harder to find a perfect swell. Dressed in wetsuits, up at dawn, they camp out on the shores of Lake Erie in near-freezing temperatures, waiting for the ultimate wave. Crazy? Yes. Extreme? Definitely. Alchemy Hour Double IPA pays tribute to the North Coast’s unlikely surf bums and the ancient quest for liquid gold, wherever it may live: on the ocean, in a lake, in a bottle.

Style Origin: Distinctively American, the Double IPA or Imperial IPA is thought to have originated in California. This fairly new style is a heartier, hoppier version of the traditional IPA with a higher alcohol content, creating a very strong and flavorful drinking experience.

Flavor: Hop-forward with a balanced blend of Mosaic and Nugget hops

Ingredients:
MALT Harrington 2-Row Base Malt: Allows color and flavor from other specialty malts to come through; makes for very clean beer Caramel 45: Contributes to amber color; provides complexity Honey Malt: Contributes sweetness

HOPS Mosaic: New U.S. hop; provides floral, tropical, fruity, and earthy characteristics Nugget: U.S. bittering hop; provides floral, resiny aroma and flavor Cascade: U.S. hop with citrus characteristics for aroma

Pairs With: Smoked beef brisket, grilled lamb, sharp and rich cheeses, and sweet desserts

Shelf Life: 90 days

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2019 12 oz bottle 3/26/19 (Binny's Montgomery Mix A Six)-36° in Shaker. Pours amber with a small off white head. Aroma of hops and malt. Taste of the same. This full bodied brew is balanced nicely and is very tasty.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2019 Copper color with minimal white head. For the high IBU and ABV it actually hides it well. Slightly sweet caramel malt with hop bitterness that is present no doubt, albeit a bit restrained for the style.

Aroma - caramel malt and bitter hops Appearance - the body is a hazy caramel. 1 1/2” white head. The head is small and has great spottled lacing. Taste - caramel body with Pacific Northwest hops. Palate - body is medium, texture is slightly oily, carbonation is average, finish bittered and slightly oiled.

Pours up a pretty golden color, with a thin tan head. Aroma and taste are very complex. Aroma brings slight metallic hops and some booze. Taste is balanced with lots of hop presence backed up with ample malt. Some organic honey sweetness, Definitely a little hot. Not bad.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2018 Chill wave packs a Donkey punch for your palate. Pouring light amber with a small crown of beige head, one wiff portends a strong malty caramel affair rife with caramel, honey, golden raisin and citrus. Booze fade after every swallow. Deeply hoppy, but tempered with plenty of sweetness. Spicy hop, honey and alcohol fade. Excellent.

12 ounce bottle at home. Hop aroma but not overwhelming. Orange tint and hazy. Thin white head with film on glass. Smooth and not overly bitter. I was surprised at this. This is pretty nice for the style

Chillwave pours a semi opaque amber and has an off-white head with minimal lacing. Upfront aromatics include raisins and lots of malt balancing the liberal dose of hops with traces of berries towards the end. It drinks smoothe for 9% ABV with little lingering bitterness. Clean, medium mouthfeel with a sugary aftertaste. Caught up with it two months passed it’s prime, but still a good IIPA.

Had this on tap at TRT and ended up bring home a growler. Absolutely love it. Excellent craftsmanship and balance. The bitterness is balanced perfectly by the malts and hop flavors. Crisp finish. Goes down quick for such a strong beer. Can’t wait for this one to come back around again.

12oz bottle. Bright deep orange color with light cream lacing. Aroma is sweet alcohol and citrus. Flavors are more grapefruit and still alcohol. Syrupy body.
