New Beer Distributors, NYC bottle: pours a clear dark amber with a pretty nice off-white head. Aroma is booze, maltiness, nail polish remover, fun stuff. Taste is quite malty. Not super complex. September 17, 2015 - at The Porterhouse (Covent Garden); 330ml bottle shared with harrisoni and lagerloather. Coppery pour, I swear the bubbly head was tan with green highlights (3-). The aroma is urinal cake, alcohol and tons of overly sweet malt - and an overriding unpleasant burnt maple sugar harshness; not good. Taste is pretty nasty - acidic, harsh, sweet, intensely boozy, with out-of-place bitterness making it worse, not better - reminded me of those sugar/booze bombs made in the States by HeBrew, like Lenny’s RIPA .. ugh. Boozy, sugary, harsh ... at least it’s decently carbonated. Pretty awful stuff, I guess some time in a cellar would make this less offensive. The beer has quite a nice look. The color of the beer is a beautiful ruby red. The beer is quite clear. On top of the beer, a nice layer of soft, white foam is formed. The majority of the foam collapses, leaving a only a nice soft and creamy drape of foam.
The smell of the beer is mild at first, but aromas intensify after a while. A nice aroma of alcohol and liquorice is unveiled. It is a blend between almondy alcohol and bitter sweets and a slightly sour liquorice aroma. There might even be a tiny hint of wild yeasts. It reminds me a lot of Brouwerij ’t IJ Struis, a barley wine from a Amsterdam brewery. Both have that extra malty barley wine character.
The taste is absolutely that of a barley whine. The almondy alcohol flavour is strong. This is combined with a bittersweet liquorice flavour. I love it. It is a huge contrast with a lot of Irish beers I’ve had before. This reminds me more of Continental Europe beers, it doesn’t have that distinct Irish touch. But that touch wouldn’t fit this beer i think. It is nice this way. It shows the Irish can’t just brew porters, stouts and ales, but they can do more. Nice.

Clear medium orange amber color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, sweet bread, sweet cookie, caramel, sugary, dried fruit, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, sweet malt, caramel, sugary malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. 
33cl bottle. Pours almost clear orange brown colour with a huge most good lasting beige head. Aroma of dark malt, ripe fruits, resinous hops, some alcohol. Taste of sweet malt, ripe sweet fruits, sugar, wood, glue, alcohol. bartlebier (4214) - Belchium im Biersgau, GERMANY - JUN 10, 2016
33cl bb10/2016 (seems a bit prudish for a barley wine), via BH. - Bref: unripe quince, pear and orchard fruit peel and raw cocoa powder reach a heady point of overhopped saturation, ending in harsh tobacco and tea leaf. A superboost braonblastá that did not fall on my palate like a tasty drop. - Sherry aromas, suffused cured wood and Quittenobstler, old and spent cognac (apple). - Galena bitterness adds earthy and wooden bitters, but sparse like soils and twigs (cf. Chimay Rouge). - Harsh mouthfeel, all bitters even from the speciality malts, very little malt cushions or fruit sweetness. Dried toffee maybe, apple skins on autumn soil. - US Barleywine has always been a bit of an overkill style, but this one seems particularly immature in its low drinkability. ciocanelu (3109) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - JAN 16, 2016
Mahogany color with beige head. Aroma is pretty weak, just some sweet malts and alcohol, also a bit tart. Taste starts slightly sweet with caramel malt but gets quickly bitter and hoppy. Deep red colour on the body, with a huge, thick tan head on top, with very good retention, helped by its size.
Aroma of caramel, red fruits, marmalade, soap, mold.
Taste has also caramel, red fruits, light tofee, alcohol, malts, marmalade.
Medium body, soft carbonation.
Good, nice sipper.
