COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, keg and bottle; Regular.
Brewed at Hambleton until 7 August 2014, when Northern Monk’s own kit came into operation.

A descendant of October beer, India Pale Ale is now one of the most popular styles in the world. Originally brewed in the 1700s by Hodgson’s Bow Brewery in London and exported to India by the East India Company. This beer has been through a 300 year evolution. Our New World IPA uses a combination of US, Australian and British hop varieties and is inspired by the hop ratios and techniques originally used.

Pours a light amber coloration with a medium, fizzy head. Smell is quite grassy and a little dank, with notes of citrus fruit: grapefruit, tangerine, and a hint of tropical fruit as well: papaya, lychee. Taste is quite green and hoppy, with some biscuity malt as well. Notes of citrus fruit: grapefruit, tangerine and tropical fruit: papaya, lychee with a strong underlying grassiness and mild floral character as well. Finishes with a medium bitterness and slight dankness. Medium body and carbonation. This is a pleasant enough IPA, but the balance seems a little off, the grassiness being a tad too pungent and floral note a tad too perfumey. Still a decent enough overall balance with nice citrus and tropical fruit notes.

UPDATED: APR 20, 2018 Can. Deep golden with big off white head. Citrus grassy aroma. Taste is melon, more citrus, some malt, not that bitter. Moderate carbonation. Oily, thick texture. A bit boozy. Pretty good really.

(Keg at Kaisla, 20180412) The beer poured deep amber and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness and citricness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, sweetness and low bitterness. Aftertaste was fruity and bitter. A rather ugly brew lacking most of things I associate with beer.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2018 0,33 l boks fra Marks&Spencer i Chiswick, London.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2018 330ml can from Morrison’s Pours a hazy golden amber colour with a big, tight, off-white head. Aroma is peach and citrus, resinous. Flavour is biscuity, malty with some light citrus hops. It’s all right, ok for something you can pick up in your local supermarket. Would rather grab a Seven Peaks from Aldi.
