Okay, wow, this is certainly a new experience in mead/cyser for me. I remember how amazing the Zombie Killer was when I tried it last month, and this 'imperialized' and barrel-aged version isn't nearly as good. It's rusty orange in color and completely clear with very fine bubbles rising slowly by the hundreds. The nose is sweet cherry pie filling, but also floral candle fragrances and a basket of fresh spicy potpourri, with clove, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, etc. The flavor is very fruity, lots of sweet cherry filling, baked apple with clove and cinnamon, peach preserves, orange marmalade, and dried apricot, just to name a few, but the whiskey barrel does add a touch of booze and oak. It's sweet, full bodied, and somewhat syrupy, but there's enough acidity to not only prevent this mead from being cloying at all, but it helps to balance the sweetness for a somewhat mouthwatering finish. There's also a bit of spritz as well, which only adds to the drinkability. Overall, this is a solid mead, but I think it's a step back from the absolute awesomeness known as Zombie Killer. More isn't always better. In fact, it's often not better, and it's not in this case either.

A more complex Zombie Killer with cherries (and cranberries!?!) aplenty, floral notes, alcohol and whiskey. Sirupy mouthfeel. Tasty!

Bottle thanks to Chad. Pours orangish pink color. Larger whiskey character from the nose than barrel character. Much hotter compared to its WBA variant. The rye barrel hides more of the cherry than whiskey did.

Pours clear reddish gold. The aroma has richness, mild cherry and some of the whiskey comes through. It has a full slick Rick boy with a hint of prickly carbonation. The taste has a lot of whiskey, but that is offset by sweetness and spice and there is a hint of cherry. It has a pleasant warming effect. Really good.
