COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
(Editor’s note) Originally this version was available for the American market, while in Europe a version less sour was available; as of today, only this version of Sour is produced, so if you got a recent vintage you had this one.
The Sour has a sticker to differenciate it from the sticker-less Barriquée Mild, which has not been inoculated with lactobacillus bacteria.

Bottle from LCBO. Pours a murky reddish brown colour with a small head that reduces into a film. Aromas of cherries, strawberries and oak barrels.Taste matches the aroma with a sour backbone. Very enjoyable sour.

Italia, Italian way, Ma... EH! Rare je traverse la frontière des Outaouais pour du vin, mais ça l'air que la bière y est. J'demande au gars ... Sucrosité? Fruit ? De quessé ça goûte? Pis de répondre : - Brown beer, sour, no fruit, nice for a gloomy day. Anyway.

Picked today part of the LCBO 2018 Spring beer program, dropped it at home as I was placing it with the others from the same collection. As it started to fizz, I opened it to salvage the disaster. Although I'm not a fan of the sour, I like the aroma and the taste of this one.

Listigovers (1978) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 13, 2018
Reddish and funky smelling, has a bit of an off metallic flavour, a sour beer but fairly sweet, too much going on with the malts, just okay.

The_Osprey (10532) - WALES - APR 13, 2018
March 2018 - Keg at Moor Taproom, Bermondsey. As 'Panil Barriquée'. Pours a dark brown, hazy and opaque, foamy light brown head. Aroma is oaky, prunes, papery cranberry. Body is light with tingly carbonation. Taste is a little better than the aroma - lots of tangy plum and redcurrant, cranberry. Has a papery, somewhat acidic finish. Not bad. (6-4-7-3-14=3.4)

Keg at Moor bermondsey. A murky nut brown coloured pour with a a lasting loose beige head. Aroma is musty grape, vinegar, must, red berries, . Flavour is composed of super dry, bitter grapefruit, clean lacto, musty, airy, pithy. Palate is uber dry, pithy, abrasive carbonation.

DerWeg (1911) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 18, 2018
Moved rating from mistaken European entry. Typical Flemish Red look, with very creamy carbonation with a dense brown-tan cap that looks great. Aromas dance with mineral and sour fruit, it just FEELS sour. Taste all sour fruit with a pretty dominant acidity, very acetic. Indeed some lemons and dry, dry cider, mysterious sour fruits, plus wet stone and slight earthy pungency, Really too light with nothing deep, complex and fruity in the body to counter the sourness, hence not all that great or interesting. Still pretty OK though. This acetic ale would (and still may) make a great Carbonnade Flamande.
