COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
James Squire Australian Strong Ale is a no-expense-spared beer, brewed to the glowing russet colour of autumn leaves. Crystal wheat and several malted barleys produce deep toasted flavours with a rich toffee edge. Lifted floral hop notes of rare Australian hops complement the profoundly malty, biscuity flavours and the apricot/fig esters created by wild ale fermentation.

OLD NOTES JUL 7, 2004 Finally found it. Pours rusty amber colour with a little white head. The aroma is quite weak, mainly nutty malt flavours and a bit of alcohol present. Quite a roasted flavour; dark chocolate, nut, caramel, stone fruits and a fair bit of alcohol. A different beer at different temperatures really. Very different from the others in the James Squire range, much more of a sipper and one for the winter, but has the quality you expect from other beers in the range from MSB.

Copper coloured body with a ruby tint and a thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel, malt, toffee, raisins and odd must. Medium-bodied; Sharp pungent maltiness with no sugars at all, fading fast to a musty & earthy finish. Aftertaste bitter, but remarkably clean! Overall, odd - hardly any character for what I’d normally expect, but great to try! Thanks so much to Phil (haddon90) for this one on his return trip down under. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from a bottle shop in Leura (Sydney), New South Wales, Australia on 02-August-2005.

Bottle at Chris_O bottlefest 2007. Amber colour with thin beige head. Grapefruity aroma. Sticky toffee in mouth. Not that great to be honest. Fine if unsubtle.

A Mes rate: 345ml bottle (strange size) at Chris O’s extravaganza. Wheat, liquorice and malt in the aroma and a definite aged character to it. Dark blonde colour with only a slight white head. Flavour is similar to the nose, again with the aged feel but this time with some hops to add balance. Great creamy palate which again suggests some age. Interesting but not outstanding.

Bottled at Chris_O Fest March 2007. A copper coloured beer. The aroma suggests a certain amount of age. Some buttery notes also. The taste is nice and hoppy with a good malt balance. Good alcohol flavours also. Nice but I wonder if it could be better younger.

Nicko (223) - Ashfield, AUSTRALIA - SEP 2, 2006
Got a 6pack for $10 as it was best before 5 months ago, bargain. Reddy brown colours with a light frothy head. Yeasty, sweet vanilla and some fruity aromas. Very smooth for what it is.

Ungstrup (50021) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAY 7, 2006
An orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is quite sweet and malty, and the flavor is also sweet malty with a touch of metal from the alcohol.

TheDiceMan (5) - Gold Coast, AUSTRALIA - MAR 31, 2006 does not count
A deep rich amber color that looks and smells bloody brilliant in a sweet honey-malty kind of way, nice head too. Smells very fruity, and has a slight toffee kind of taste to it. I dont know if this would be considered an aggresive taste, but it kind of hits you hard. Though perhaps that is from teh high alcohol content (6.8%). Prefered the Porter from these guys, but Id buy again when Im in the mood for a drink that really registers.

Storm (2684) - Amager, DENMARK - MAR 30, 2006
34,5 cl bottle. Amber colour with a weak head. Light aroma of caramel and also flavour of caramel, toffee and hints of hops.
