COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
’Never mix grape and grain’ - we’re breaking the cardinal rule again for our second grape harvest beer. Chataeu Aro a dark rubescent lager conditioned on the freshly crushed juice and skins of pinot noir grapes from the award winning Escaroment Winery. And the result of this unholy union? Rich, complex and surprising. Remember, beer then wine, you’ll be fine.

UPDATED: APR 7, 2020 Draft. A red beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of ponot noir, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of pinot noir, malt, and caramel, leading to a dry finish.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2019 One of the most complex beers I’ve ever drunk and I feel it should be drunk.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2019 Bottle from explosivedog from a trade, thanks: pours brownish red with a light white head. Aroma is thick grapiness, maltiness. Taste is sweet, not quite tart, woody, yeasty. Slight hints of booze. Winy.

Tap at the Freehouse, Singapore. Poured a clear dark burgundy with no life, The aroma is yeast vinous fruity. The flavour is light sweet with a dry oaky, vinous, light warm alcoholic palate with some light tannins in the finish. Now this is really quite interesting. This is more like a wine than a fruit beer. As a fruit beer it gets high ratings but I’m sure that any wine enthusiast would pour this down the drain. I’m on the fence. It’s drinkable and satisfying but would I be drinking his alongside a filet steak? I don’t think so.

Tap at Garage 91 Aro. Hazy burgundy with almost no head. Thick jammy red grapes, Bordeaux red wine, light vanilla, sweet red grapes, thick black currants, light yoghurt, grass, sugary, soft tannins. Over medium sweet, under medium tart and bitter. Full bodied. More like wine or even Port than beer, but very good.

640mL bottle from Carwyn Cellars. 2016 vintage Pours a murky bronze body, small off-white head. Complex aroma - quite port-like upfront - sultanas, dried figs, caramels, black fruits, walnut rancio, oak notes of butter & vanilla. Body reasonably rich, sticky, syrup, subdued carbonation with a touch of acidity cutting through. Really interesting flavours - once again, port-like parallels; nutty walnutty rancio notes play backbone to dried/vinous dark fruit notes of sultana, plums & figs. Slightly funky tannic finish, buttery, oaky, spicy, mulchy character in the works. Exceeds expectations; very nice "wine-beer"!

drjoeng (2423) - SINGAPORE - SEP 15, 2017
10.9%ABV. Ruby ale. Poured out red brown. 26ºSRM. Nose has alcoholic fumes carrying raw honey, hint of Muscovado funk, earth and wet leaves reminiscent of forest floor, fresh ripe stone fruit. Nose also has pretty strong earthy fresh fruity aromas suggesting chiku or fresh dates. There are also aromas reminiscent of ume Mouthfeel is juicy. Palate has brief juicy sour, flavors of toast and bread crusts come through and hit of waxy, spicy flavors (suggestive of Brett or some other non-ale yeast getting busy) then a tannin-loaded slide down the rest of the hop flavors. Hop flavors are earthy, woody, hint of sap (overall, like chewing on a fresh twig), grape skins, tannin-like bitter with an astringent mouthfeel and flavor. Overall, a complex brew, but hampered by a very jagged uneven tasting experience.

Dredd (1101) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - JUN 21, 2017
Pour is ruby brown with tan head. Aroma is big and fruity, raisins almost bordering on muscat notes. Initial palate is a big boozy hit with fruit, spice and a myriad of other flavours. Finish is slightly grippy from tannins and a bit acidic. It is big and brilliant.

Dark red with off-white head. Red wine, barrels and flemish red. Sweet, woody, slight acidic and spicy finish. The malt brings new flavors to this wine. Very interesting and groundbreaking.
