COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The impact of homebrewers on the American craft beer industry has been immense. The comfort level and lack of inhibitors provided by a domestic brewing environment fosters a near limitless brand of experimentation, allowing homebrewers to push te beer envelope to its breaking point. Many of the professional brewing worlds best recipes--from West Coast IPAs to imperial stouts and even sours--began as homespun standouts so spectacular they had to be unleashed on the world in order to improve it.

With this in mind, each year we hold an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned homebrewing competition, the champion of which gets their recipe brewed and distributed nationwide by Stone. This years winner, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional apalate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the sout, as our collaborators from Baja California, Cervezeria Insurgente, will attest. Layered with tiers of earthiness, spice, and roast, this creamy, semisweet blue ribbon beer confirms that the spirit of the American homebrewer is not only alive and kicking but thriving at an all-time high.

Pours black with ruby gleams and a beige, creamy head. Aroma of cappuccino, cinnamon, chocolate and some unpleasant wet rag. Its not dominant and doesnt spoil the whole flavour but its there. The taste is chocolate, coffee, cacao, almonds, lactose with a short, spicy bitterness and chocolatey, vanilla, ice cream-like finish. Despite many sweet notes, the beer is rather dry, alcohol gently warms as it goes down the throat. Its very smooth on the palate, the carbonation is low. "Xocoveza" is a pleasant, Christmas stout with lots of spices.

Black with short lived, tan head. Aroma of coffee, chili and chocolate. Cinnamon comes out nicely in the flavor. Smooth round flavors, well balanced and perfectly hopped so as not to distract from the malt and spice character. Excellent all around!

355 ml bottle. Black, with a thin brown head. Aroma of cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, notes of chili and cinnamon. The flavour is sweetish, roasted malty, with milk chocolate and coffee, a little bit of chili hotness, and a spicy, slightly smoky finish with vanilla notes. Interesting brew, much better than I expected after reading the ingredient list.

33 cl can from Systembolaget. Black with a medium mocha head. Strong aroma roasted malt, coffee, caramel, cardamom, milk chocolate, vanilla. Taste reflects the aroma, but here the cardamon becomes more dominating. Low to medium body, with a thin texture.

Pours black with no real head. Aroma is chocolate and chiles. Taste is bittersweet with a bit of heat. Theres lots of chocolate and cinnamon, peppers, vanilla, coffee and roasted malt. Medium bodied with low carbonation. This definitely tastes like hot chocolate. My only real complaint is the peppers taste green and give a vegetal off flavour.

More of a winter warmer, this was the 2014 version I finally got around to. Heat melded with the spices and eased off on lactose. Pretty good but would be more drinkable if more coffee and roasted barley than spice tea.

Aroma (pleasant) - coffee with cinnamon and vanillas syrup, a bit of cola, some smoked black fruits. Taste - pleasant sweetness, predominantly with roasted malt with a bit of cola, cinnamon and vanilla, a bit of burn and pungency in the background and aftertaste (pleasant and long). Very good!
