The impact of homebrewers on the American craft beer industry has been immense. The comfort level and lack of inhibitors provided by a domestic brewing environment fosters a near limitless brand of experimentation, allowing homebrewers to push te beer envelope to its breaking point. Many of the professional brewing world’s best recipes--from West Coast IPAs to imperial stouts and even sours--began as homespun standouts so spectacular they had to be unleashed on the world in order to improve it.

With this in mind, each year we hold an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned homebrewing competition, the champion of which gets their recipe brewed and distributed nationwide by Stone. This year’s winner, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional apalate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the sout, as our collaborators from Baja California, Cervezeria Insurgente, will attest. Layered with tiers of earthiness, spice, and roast, this creamy, semisweet blue ribbon beer confirms that the spirit of the American homebrewer is not only alive and kicking but thriving at an all-time high.

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2018 Amazing! Most coffee stouts I try are far too sweet. The chilli offsets the sweetness perfectly and the cinnamon+nutmeg give the beer a wonderful cosy winter feel. It reminds me of a Mexican hot chocolate but it’s much more than that!

On tap at Euston Tap. Five pounds a half pint this had better be good. Black beer lasting tan head. Coconut aroma. Smooth chocolate in the flavour. Deep rich dark chocolate. Oh man that's good its like having a drug. Everything is OK now. Coconut and chilli aroma. Light chilli in mouth builds to a slight heat finish. The chocolate chilli coconut is pretty heady. I mean I love it. I want to take it home and give it babies. Worth a fiver? Shit yeah.

World of Beer in Short Pump, VA The stout poured a deep opaque black with a tan head. Coffee and chocolate aromas are detected quickly. Other aromas of roasted malt are experienced. This is amazing stout so easy to drink and enjoy. The taste is quite complex with chocolate malts and vanilla beans. The stout has a medium body with soft carbonation. The finish is clean with hints of vanilla and coffee lingering in each swallow.

Pours black, brown head. Aroma of cocoa, nutmeg, spice. Taste is cocoa, sweet roasted malt, hop bite, cola, warmth. More spice on the finish. Creamy smooth. Very nice.

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2018 Color totalmente negro, opaca. Textura oleosa.

Poured into snifter from can, a new product style for 2018. Aroma was unremarkable, mostly faint chocolate and burnt malts, a hint of spice. Fine head with good lace retention. Taste was bitter chocolate, coffee, burnt malts and spice. The vanilla component comes out in the finish and really combines well with the other flavors. However, the spice component gives this stout a punky tobacco and leather vibe, something not that enjoyable to these taste buds. Appreciate the craftsmanship but not my thing... it was hard to finish. Greatly crafted beer but not for me.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2018 , a spiciness, like habanero almost seems to come through quite strongly, make it a bit tough on the palate, but still good. Biererie berlin

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2018 0,33 l Dose. Schwarzes Bier, cremefarbener Schaum. Riecht und schmeckt nach Kakao, wie flüssige Zartbitterschokolda mit weihnachtlichen Gewürzen und einem Hauch Chili.
