The impact of homebrewers on the American craft beer industry has been immense. The comfort level and lack of inhibitors provided by a domestic brewing environment fosters a near limitless brand of experimentation, allowing homebrewers to push te beer envelope to its breaking point. Many of the professional brewing world’s best recipes--from West Coast IPAs to imperial stouts and even sours--began as homespun standouts so spectacular they had to be unleashed on the world in order to improve it.

With this in mind, each year we hold an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned homebrewing competition, the champion of which gets their recipe brewed and distributed nationwide by Stone. This year’s winner, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional apalate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the sout, as our collaborators from Baja California, Cervezeria Insurgente, will attest. Layered with tiers of earthiness, spice, and roast, this creamy, semisweet blue ribbon beer confirms that the spirit of the American homebrewer is not only alive and kicking but thriving at an all-time high.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2019 From tap at #100piv 0,2 l Full aroma, chocolate, coffee. Dark full roast body. Sweet, biscuit, dry plumbs, alcohol in taste. Medium strong palate, little bitterness in aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2019 Pours a black or near black color. One finger mocha head. Pretty good lacing.

Aroma is mocha, hot chocolate. Roasted peppers. Oh my, smells divine!

Taste is mild spicy peppers. Chocolate. Lactic and smooth.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Smooth and a little chalky.

Overall this is incredible. Very impressive. Great flavor, and my lips are burning a bit. Yes! I recommend it and would buy it again!

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2019 Smells of cheap dark roasted coffee. Dark color, thin tan lacing. Milky mouthfeel. Nutmeg flavors don’t mix well and make it taste like roasted cough syrup and chemicals. Really gross. One of the worst stouts I’ve had in a while. Pretty disapppinted overall.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2019 Dark brown colour, beige foam. Sweet and malty stout, roasted coffee, lots of milk and sugar, very spicy, lots of cinnamon and other winter spices. A tad too milky and too sweet.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2019 Definitely smells of cacao and chocolate. Feels like you are drinking spiced up hot chocolate. Milky texture to it. Pours dark. Nice head. Not too sweet, dark chocolate gives it bit of bitter finished. Spicy after taste.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2019 Black pour with a two finger, creamy tan head that has good retention. Aroma is roast, toast, cinnamon-heavy pie spice, earthy pepper. Flavor is about the same, but a bit more earthy and sweet. Medium body, slick and slightly sticky. Really good.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2018 De lata en Beerhouse. Color petróleo con leve espuma de color café. Aromas a alcohol, vainilla, café, regaliz y sobre todo chocolate. En boca es oleosa, predomina el regaliz h el alcohol, finalmente destaca el chocolate. Retrogusto final fuerte a alcohol, chocolate y algo amargo que no consigo descifrar y que para mi gusto desentona. No está mal pero las hay mejores.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2018 Appearance is nearly black, with a 1-finger mocha head. Aroma is chocolate, spices, cinnamon, hint of nutmeg, coffee, cocoa. Taste- smooth chocolate, hints of coffee, plenty of spice, cinnamon, sweet finish. Tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2018 Huge mocha aroma in a jet black pour. Full on mocha flavor to match with a complex yet subtle mix of chilli, cinnamon, liquorice, nutmeg and vanilla. Dangerously delicious.
