The impact of homebrewers on the American craft beer industry has been immense. The comfort level and lack of inhibitors provided by a domestic brewing environment fosters a near limitless brand of experimentation, allowing homebrewers to push te beer envelope to its breaking point. Many of the professional brewing world’s best recipes--from West Coast IPAs to imperial stouts and even sours--began as homespun standouts so spectacular they had to be unleashed on the world in order to improve it.

With this in mind, each year we hold an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned homebrewing competition, the champion of which gets their recipe brewed and distributed nationwide by Stone. This year’s winner, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional apalate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper, and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the sout, as our collaborators from Baja California, Cervezeria Insurgente, will attest. Layered with tiers of earthiness, spice, and roast, this creamy, semisweet blue ribbon beer confirms that the spirit of the American homebrewer is not only alive and kicking but thriving at an all-time high.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2019 Part of the LCBO 2018-19 Beer Program, I like this brewer, yet, this style was a bit of a miss in regards to the spiced chocolate, when compared to the Evil Twin, as the taste was a bit too subtle for me.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2019 Bloody joke, can came with a massive gushing. Very solvent. Spices indeed perceptible, empty. Shame for involving me in cleaning everything for an hour.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2019 Hints of Mexican chocolate, coffee, Pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. The aroma is that of Mexican hot chocolate. Pours dark brown with a caramel color head. Enjoyable stout beer.

YantarCoast (2564) - Moscow, RUSSIA - AUG 31, 2019

17Beer (911) - Connecticut, USA - AUG 27, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2019 12 oz can. Pours black red brown with a big thick tan head that dissipates.Smells of chocolate and vanilla. Super complex tastes of chocolate, coffee with sweet vanilla, tobacco and heat from the peppers that works very well. All the competing tastes blend well and balance. Oily mouthfeel that has some astringency. A great complex original.

AtronSeige (2522) - Gatsonderwater, SOUTH AFRICA - AUG 14, 2019
UPDATED: AUG 14, 2019 Aroma: Medium-high spicy; cinnamon, nutmeg. Medium vanilla, chocolate. Appearance: Black body, with brown highlights. Medium, light-brown head. Fine bubbles. Fair retention. Flavour: Medium cinnamon. Medium bitterness. Medium chocolate, Slightly dry finish with cinnamon and chocolate. Mouthfeel: Medium-white body. Medium carbonation, smooth. Light warming, either from alcohol, cinnamon, chili. Overall: The aroma reminds me of cinnamon pancakes, and that then changes to a chocolate and cinnamon infusion. Very nice! 330 ml can, poured.
