Idiosynkrasie (9916) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 9, 2019
UPDATED: JAN 9, 2019 500ml bottle [10% abv]. Hazy to murky, brown-ish, darkest purple colour with small, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Smoky, chocolately, dark malty and slightly fruity aroma, notes of smoked birchwood, chocolate, hints of elderberry. Taste is smoky malty, slightly chocolately and fruity, minimally dry, tart, notes of elderberry, hints of smoked wood and fresh, green wood; smooth and soft palate. Well hidden alcohol, well balanced - nice composition.

weihenweizen (5261) - Charleston, West Virginia, USA - NOV 4, 2018
Refrigerated 0.5 L brown bottle poured into a glass. Dark brown with very small off-white head. Aroma is elderberry, medium body, low carbonation, and very little lacing. Taste is elderberry, herbs, and some smoke.

djd07 (19438) - Houston, Texas, USA - SEP 21, 2018
Poured at Shelton Festival, dark brown with medium beige head. The aroma is berry and oak. Slick body, floral, berry, oak, dry finish, good.

snowcrash000 (670) - Cologne, GERMANY - JUL 5, 2018
Pours a hazy deep mahogany coloration with a small, fizzy head. Smell is dominated by tart elderberry and bready malt, with hints of smoke and toffee. Taste follows the nose, with a strong, moderately sour elderberry note backed by bready, caramel malt and smoke. Hints of red berries, toffee and chocolate, as well as a certain earthy, musty note. Finishes more tart than bitter, with some more smokiness lingering in the aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. While this odd combination of tartness, smokiness and fruitiness is not going to be for everyone, it's actually exceptionally well balanced and also backed up by a certain malt complexity. The 8% ABV is also very well hidden, not a hint of booziness to this.

Bitterbill (2490) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - MAY 25, 2018
Bottle bought at Liquor Shed. Pours what looks to be a clear dark red, mahogany, great head of foam and lacing. Smell is of fruity tart elderberry and some light smoke. The taste has the elderberry tartness that would be a good addition to the jolly rancher line;) The smoke is there, it cuts a bit of the tartness but not much. There's some noticeable alcohol too, being 8%abv per the label, it wasn't a total surprise. Pretty full in the mouth, lively carbonation, maybe too lively. I don't know the history of traditional Dortmunder Alts but if this is one, I reckon that I prefer the Dusseldorf versions.

rhoihessegold (4284) - Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - OCT 29, 2017
27-10-17 // 500ml bottle shared. Unclear brownish-red. Aroma of elderberry. Full bodied, red berry sour, elderberry notes. Boozy.

Samtzu (1003) - Palmerston North, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 25, 2017
500ml Bottle. Pours a very deep brown. Thick juicy nose with continues to develop in the palate with a hidden smoke in the background.

rodenbach99 (4639) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 10, 2017

Iznogud (6671) - CROATIA - MAY 4, 2017
UPDATED: MAY 8, 2017 Bottle 500 ml, courtesy of Giggsy. Shared with Max, JFK10000 and Tomi. Pours brownish amber with off white head. Light smoke, fruity, berries, malty. Light sweetness, bit sour. Medium bodied. Weird and interesting.
