UPDATED: MAR 16, 2020 Pours hazy reddish brown with a thick beige head. Nose is malt and apple cider. Sweet but not too sweet, pleasingly medium bitterness, light sour. I'm getting the licorice and chocolate along with apples, malt, toffee, and yeast. Beese (10012) - Tooting, London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2020
UPDATED: FEB 18, 2020 12oz bottle at Peculier Pub, New York on 04/04/2008. Quite possibly the best American dubbel I’ve ever had. Just completely spot on; this would be a fantastic example even in Belgium. Learninbeer (848) - Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA - JAN 19, 2020
UPDATED: JAN 19, 2020 The aroma is a little sweet, honey. Pours dark reddish brown with fully diminishing light tan head. The taste is a medium bittersweet. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation average. Very good beer, this 11 years old and still is holding up well. hayayoshi (534) - Colorado, USA - NOV 23, 2019

UPDATED: APR 20, 2020 I have had this beer many times. This review, however, is a composite review of two tastings: from 2019 and 2020. Caged and corked big bottle pours burgundy with ruby highlights and a half-inch fluffy tan head and lots of residual lacing. Aroma: brown sugar, dried dark fruits, cherries, apples, plums, spices. Flavor: caramel, brown sugar, toffee, honey, figs, dates, prunes, raisins, ripe plums, cherries, chocolate, molasses cookies, yeasty brown bread, and licorice; the flavor is delicious when the beer is cool, but unfortunately this licorice/anise spice becomes quite astringent and off-putting as the beer gets warm. Mouthfeel: medium- to full-bodied, soft on palette, creamy finish. smroush (441) - Michigan, USA - JUN 23, 2019
UPDATED: JUN 23, 2019 Malty, yeasty aromas with some fruit. Toffee, caramel, bread, a little plum. A bit sweet, good, reasonably complex, maybe a tad too sweet. Moretum (515) - Vienna, AUSTRIA, AUSTRIA - APR 20, 2019
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2019 Pour into nonic pint glass. Appearance is hazy, deep cherry red with orange highlights, lots of effervescent sparkle, 2-finger quickly fading fizzy beige head with no lacing. Aroma is strong caramel, dark and stone fruits (primarily plum, raisin, peach). Taste is apple, caramel, brown sugar, honey, dark fruit. Palate is light bodied with smooth, thin texture, lively-to-fizzy carbonation, numbing the bottom lip, and finish as taste. Overall, nice color and strong aroma and taste. Palate's not altogether pleasant--thin and the carbonation almost hurts the tongue.
